Prius' getting some heat from other manufactuers?

    Is the Prius going to be facing some heat from other car makers bringing their turbodiesel 4-bangers to the US market? Ford is supposed to bring their 62.5mpg Fiesta to the US by 2010, and we can expect to see a BMW 123d here in a few years as well, which will get 201bhp, get to 60 in 7.1 sec, run 54mpg, while still driving like a BMW.

    I know you guys are defensive of your Priuses, but what will the future of your beloved hybrids be?

    Are those Euro MPG ratings in Imperial Gallons? Also, don't forget that the current Prius is pushing 5 years old now. By the time those diesels make it to the US (if they can pass the EPA regulations) the Lithium-Ion battery equipped Toyota hybrids should be out also.

    The more options for folks to choose among, the better. I'm buying a Prius because I want to make a change now, and the Prius is the best choice for me and my family at this time.

    An all-electric would likely suit our driving needs better and we'll probably move to one once some realistic choices become available.

    I am interested, not so much as a prospective Prius buyer, but merely as a matter of raw curiosity to see what the 3rd gen Prius will be all about. And the German diesels are using urea-injection into the exhaust, which reacts with the exhaust, making all that comes out of your tailpipe pure H2O, so yes it will pass emissions and yes it will be very enviormentally friendly.

    Another thing that irks me though is what happens when all those Li-Ion batteries are no longer any good? Will they pile up at landfills? Launch them into space? Whats the enviornmentally friendly answer for that?

    I'm willing to wait for the 123d though, in the mean time my wallet hurts.

    Toyota has a bounty on the traction batteries, and I assume they always will. They recycle them, as they should. Probably a higher percentage of those are recycled than standard lead-acid batteries. Lets see, turn in the battery and get a couple hundred dollars, or send it to the landfill and get nothing. What would you do?

    Troll indicators: less than 2 posts, new member, statements are against the grain. Sound like someone we've read recently?

    How come a Google search returns multiple hits to BimmerForum.com?
    I wonder if the Admins over there know that a few members of their fold are trolling around over here?

    You see, I've been criticized for being soft on some people. The truth is that I let people establish a presence and a pattern. Sometimes they even let it slip where they are coming from and how they are organized. No Forum owner/admin wants repercussion resulting from a few of their members organizing their activities on their site and using it as a launch-pad to muck around in someone else's forum. We've already logged IP addresses (we even know that you hop on from different computers). Now that we know who to contact, I think it's time we compare them with the admins.

    Theres a line between trolling and fair criticism. I don't think I crossed that line, and if I did, I hadn't intended to. Because I found this site through BF.c, and proceeded to post a question/criticism/observation, does that automatically make me a troll out seeking mischief? I don't know how you see it, but c'mon learn to lighten up.

    My guess is... you keep getting kicked (using other accounts) which prevents you from building up your "number of posts" count. You want to annoy people, so now your trying to keep it nice enough to prevent the big boot. Along the way you'll build your post count and become more respectible, even though your main goal is troll. :mad:

    When I join a new forum I lurk for a while, not make criticisms or statements that the general population know to be false, or based on lack of knowledge, or based on ???? Your postings are similar to lots of others here... but generally I think they are ignored more. Not sure what happened to you.... guess this is your lucky day!!

    As I'm sure your fine mods are already in the process of running my IP, they'll see that I am unique here, not a re-register.

    I've actually popped in and out of this site before, but it crossed my mind today as to what the Prius will do with all the new competition coming out in terms of clean diesel. "Hmm," I thought, "Let me ask some Prius owners what they think of the issue." Well turns out I can't even do that without having a witch hunt launched against me :rolleyes:. I also ask you, what generalizations or false criticisms have I made?

    Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. What ever happened to seeking knowledge or opinions on a topic. That is exactly what this is right here.

    I see that the term "troll" is used here a lot. This is used when some other member makes an assumption about another fellow member that is "mucking" around. Well when one member calls the other member a "troll", how do you know that they are not offended by it. So technically you say that we are the ones that are being rude, when really it is you by your name calling.

    Well competition is good. Look at the M3 vs. C63 AMG vs. RS4.

    Let's face it, the Prius isn't for everyone. There's a huge market potential for the cars you've listed above. Why? well there are the diesel fanatics and the BMW fanatics as well as those that place performance above everything else. These 3 major groups will not drive a Prius even if it was given to them for free. So, in order to get the rest of the people into more fuel efficient cars, we need a wider range of options and the Fiesta and BMW diesels will be that wider range.

    Keep in mind that so far MB has only kept the diesels to two SUVs and the midsiz E-Class If BMW is willing to bring it down to the 1 and 3 series, a whole new market will emerge. :)
