I take Gaglardi, from Lougheed to HWY 1 (70 kmh), then HWY 1 to Mary Hill Bypass, then Mary Hill all the way to Kingsway (mostly 70kmh) -> that's where I _currently_ avg. 55MPG. Unfortunately P&G from 65-55 doesn't work - too many annoyed trucks trying to make it to the bridge. I'm going 75-70, and that's too slow for most. If I could P&G at that range - you get the picture. Then Kingsway to work - awsome P&G for a few miles.

Generally, being able to P&G at higher speeds would be beneficial and allow for more flexibility. It's not just that I'm slowing down traffic (I am, but they're free to pass), it's the fact that P&G on Lougheed around the 75-65 range makes more sense.

As I recall, I saw somewhere a post saying that the 64kmh cutoff was rather arbitrary (yes, engine spinning and all, but why 64 and not 68, etc.?).

How about a blanket and a cheap $5 tarp to wrap up the bike and contain the smell from the mud, the smell from the rider I'll let you figure out.

I like the design someone has dreamed up, I doubt it was Toyota.
I think what we see on the streets will blow us all away.

    Blow me away Toyota!

Why not 150? I guess they had to draw the line somewhere.
I imagine that to design and build an electric motor which spins 10% faster would cost considerably more to design and build. A change in ratios would limit acceleration and as the design brief was for a city car I guess acceleration was important.

That would be insane not to include telescoping wheel and seat adjustments on the 2010 to indirectly force to buy what they don't want or need. Some people, like me, just have no use at all for a Camry hybrid or any other sedan ... I am a drummer and need cargo space, a hatch or wagon style car.

I have no need for either a telescoping steering wheel or additional seat adjustments and would not want to pay additional for them. If Toyota does make these changes, put them in a upgrade package and let those that need or want them pay extra to have it installed at the factory.

I'm really hoping that either the next Prius offers a package at a higher trim level or that the upcoming Lexus hybrid comes in at around $35K.

I like the Prius and of the current cars on the road I wouldn't trade it for any, but there are a number of fairly simple things that it's missing.

Also agree that I'd like to see the enhancements come as options or option packages so as to not impact the relatively low purchase price. The more people buying them, the better.

I've read that Li-nanophosphate batteries being developed will charge to 90% capacity in 10 minutes, without degradation. So, the problem may not be with rapid charging, but charging at those rates would require a commercial outlet, as residential wiring would never handle those amperages. At upwards of $4.50/gal, I could justify (including HOV sticker) the $10k cost of the Hypermotion PHEV conversion, only if I could charge at work (slow charge ok) or at a (quickcharge) "filling" station, so I could do 100MPG on the trip home. Another issue hampering PHEVs is the lack of ability to bill usage back to car owners... would you want to foot the bill for a visitor to you home "filling up" each time they dropped by? The new electric utility advanced meters should have that capability, but so far as I've seen (working with AMI), billing via vehicle-based RFID or other method, is not addressed in the current designs.

A simple mechanical handle and slightly more complicated steering wheel is no big deal weight wise, or costwise.

My crappy old 1988 Toyota SR5 Pickup has a seat height adjuster, geeez.

Ok, time to try another approach ....

The Honda Civic Hybrid comes with both ...

    * tilt and telescopic steering wheel

    * manual driver's seat height adjuster

Is this too much to ask for in a 2010 Toyota Prius?

Yeah the trucks are a problem lol. Kingsway you can P&G since it's slightly downhill towards downtown. I drove on Kingsway from Earl's St. to 7th Ave that's why lol. it won't work going eastbound since it's all uphill.

I think it's more to do with the elec. motor's rpm's limit. Increase the power of the motor and hopefully tightening the wound would increase the rpm limit (I'm just throwing out ideas... didn't really like circuitry and electromagnetism). But yeah, a higher P&G limit would be fantastic.

Nope and I'm sure it'll come with it. Keep in mind when they redesigned it, it was probably 2000 or 2001. At that time, not many cars have telescoping wheels (even the new 2002 Camry didn't have it) so I guess they figured they'll be safe if they reduced that cost.

And how do you think your electricity is created? Unless you have a full solar power system at your place of "plugging in", you are still polluting.

It kills me that people still think that the generation of electricity is clean.

Wow. That's horrible. It looks like Merkur tried a styling comeback.

I thought Prius owners are lot smarter
In NY state we receive more than 50% of our electricity generated by hydropower from our Canadian nieghbors in Quebec. Electricity generated by hydropower is clean.
There are also wind farms upstate NY. Electricity generated by wind farms is clean.

Or a 1970's Rover 2600 re-make, or even hints of Citroen in that design, bottom line, agreed, yuk.:yuck:
