    2008 Prius
    Hello everyone,
I'm hoping that someone may be able to provide some information or insight to my question. First, a little background: about 2 weeks ago I put my name on a waiting list for a 2008 Prius. At that time the salesperson asked for my top three exterior color preferences as well as desired interior color and option package. The salesperson explained that a certain number of Priuses (Prii?) were alloted every 10 days or so but the dealer had no way of knowing until the cars were put on the ship what would be delivered to the car lot. At that time I asked which cars seemed more readily available and I was told silver, white, black, and red. The dealer has received two allotments since I became really interested in getting a Prius and there do seem to be a lot of silver, black, and red cars going to the car dealer. My questions: do the car delears have any control over what is shipped or is there some formula that determines how many of a certain color goes to one dealer as opposed to another? Has anyone heard the same information that was told to me? Bottom line is - I am so excited about getting a Prius but I would like to get it before the end of time. :)

What he said is true, they get what they get. At this point with demand so high no dealer (at least in the Southeast distribution area) can actually order a specific car and it's very unlikely that they could even do a dealer trade.

I appreciate the insight offered. I am eagerly awaiting word that I have been given a VIN number. Last week I was told I should have a VIN within 3 weeks. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I was at a Mid-Atlantic dealership today and they told us that even tho' they receive and sell more Prii than any other dealership in the area (in order to get these cars he says they have to agree to pay Toyota to take large trucks and SUVs that don't sell), they don't have any input at this point as to what Toyota colors and options manufactures. In this area, they are only shipping options 4,5 &6 and like your dealership, they take down each customer's first three choices and contact them in order of what comes in. If you express no preference (in other words, you can afford a fully-loaded Prius with leather in any color) you increase your odds of beating out someone who just walked in onto the lot.

Here, once they have the VIN, they will call you and if you are still interested, have you come in, fill out the contract and the car is yours as soon as it actually arrives.
