This article only mentions the Prius in passing, since it's at the highest end of the scale in the other direction. But it's interesting to see them lead off with the Hummer, even though it's not the worst, since there are those legends saying it's more environmentally friendly than a Prius.

Wow, own one of the highest, and one of the lowest on the list. I drive a Prius during the week, and on weekends I drive a vehicle that in a 3 way tie for 9th worst with 2 AMG Mercedes. I'm currently getting 13.6 with 90% city/10% highway driving though... must be those P&G techniques I carry over from my Prius:

    9. (tie) Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8
    EPA Air Pollution Score
    (higher is better) :
    6
    Carbon Footprint
    (lower is better) :
15.2 annual tons of greenhouse gas emissions
The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is the polar opposite of the diesel-powered Grand Cherokee CRD in second place on this list. Unlike the fuel-efficient CRD, the SRT8 is a high-performance SUV whose 420-horsepower 6.1-liter V8 engine chugs gasoline and creates a large Carbon Footprint. It gets 11 mpg city/14 mpg highway, which is much lower than its diesel counterpart achieves. But the gasoline-powered SRT8's better air pollution score put it ahead of the CRD model.

It says they exclude Bentleys, Ferraris, and Lamborghinis because "they're produced in such limited quantities and so few consumers would consider buying one."

Again another misinformed article writer. Do you know how many people bought the $70,000 V10 TDI Touareg - basically nobody. Oh, and it wasn't allowed to be sold in the richer states where people might have bought it. Many, many more people have bought those other "exotics" than the TDI Touareg. Ferrari sold 1,635 cars in North America in 2006 and sales keep rising, whereas while I don't have recent exact figures for the TDI version, its pretty easy to back-calculate with known data to easily less than 500 units for the Touareg TDI. It certainly wasn't more than 1,635.

So its actually the Touareg V10 TDI that is the exotic.

I'm getting a little tired of all these writers who don't do any homework.

I initially thought exactly the same thing you did. Although I work with someone with a V10 Toureg, I've never come across anyone else that had one. I would have probably excluded them from the list...

Those legends have been thoroughly debunked as pure hogwash - produced by Detriot's status quo seekers. Search PriusChat for "hummer myth".
