The style of the rear matches the look Honda has for the 2009 FIT.

The wheels look like that of the FIT in that picture, too.

Wow, I didn't even notice that. I'd say they are exactly the same.

I think it's safe to say that it's a FIT HYBRID.

Even the wheels look the same.

[EDIT] Duh about the wheels... I should read the posts before me. lol.

that is the interior of the civic, and most likely a civic hybrid at that.

    ...that's what I said.

The Fit Hybrid's interior (the dash anyway) looks like a Civic's interior from what I can tell in the 7th picture, looking through the passenger window.

Speedometer on top, tach on bottom. Let me reiterate:

Your attention to the driver's console.

Motor Trend magazine now has the photos: "The all-new, as-yet-unnamed Honda hybrid, while still wearing a fair amount of camouflage, bears a striking resemblance to Toyota's Prius Hybrid, especially the greenhouse, but it also clearly takes more than a few cues from the Japanese automaker's FCX Clarity fuel cell sedan, which Honda said the vehicle would borrow many of its design elements from. The new Honda hybrid is expected to undercut both the Prius and Honda's own Civic Hybrid in the pricing department. The new global hybrid is scheduled to hit dealerships in late 2009 as a 2010 model"

that interior pic is NOT a civic hybrid. it doesnt have the charge/assist gauge and no automatic climate control.. its a civic EX. and i dont think that test mule is a Fit either.. its too long to be a Fit. i think it is the new honda hybrid which they claimed it will look like a FCX clarity in a 5 door hatchback form.. but it looks awfully similar to the prius!

Holy crap it looks just like a Prius. The rear hatch, the space on the sides of the license plate space, the rear wiper, only thing different is the mirrors and wheels

Also notice the white Prius in the 2nd picture....

I'm sorry, but I just don't see the resemblance in this photo:

Even the interior and shape of the dash above the steering wheel are completely Honda. Maybe the roofline and rear side window resembles a Prius, but the rest of the car, including the doors is clearly not the same as the Prius that is in the photo next to it. Having it side by side with a Prius is working against you because although it may show the similarity in the roofline, it also proves that the remainder of the vehicles are completely different.

That interior shot is a Civic. You can tell by the rear view mirrors on the right side. THe civic has them mounted on the door, not on the a pillar

The license plate is a Honda plate. Someone from another car discussion forum got pictures of other car photos with that same plate.

Externally it's almost identical. Just some minor cosmetic differences. Just goes to show that Toyota came up with a very efficient/practical design.

I have to agree. I just can't believe that Honda would put out an auto that looks THIS much like the Prius. Of course, I could be wrong. :D

Re: Close-up pics of the new Honda Hybrid

Here are a few more shots:

    Auto Blog - Honda Hybrid

It's also occurred to me that this could also just be a test mule made up of parts of a Prius shell just for drivetrain/chasis testing purposes (though car manufacturers typically use their own models). I just can't imagine Honda releasing a car that resembles it's biggest competitor this much. Of course, in a year, the Prius could look completely different from this and Honda would be about 5 years behind the times (design-wise).

It could be the next-gen Prius, but I think I lean more towards the thought that it's not. I think it's too similar to the old form factor and when Toyota redesigns a car, it's usually significantly different. There are also a few design cues in there that are very Honda such as the way the Honda-like rear door line and the double-stack instrument cluster. The front, however, is a bit Jetta-like, so who knows, maybe we're not looking at either manufacturer's hybrid.

Sad thing is, which ever car this is, if this thing gets similar mileage, but had height-adjustable seats and a moonroof, I could see it winning over a lot of the Prius and would-be Prius folks.

I'm sure this is a dumb question, but why do they have all that black tape covering up most of the car??

It's to disguise the pre-production car from being recognized or captured by camera in it's final form.
