Just wanted to drop in and say hello. I'm a new prius owner, went from a 18mpg sports car to a hybrid. So far i'm happy with the change. I've only had the prius for about 10 days now and will fill it up for the first time in the morning. My previous car i'd already have filled up 3 times for a cost about 150 to 180 dollars so i'm pretty happy with the 140 dollar savings or so in just 2 weeks after i fill it up tomorrow.

So far on the dealer tank i've racked up 493 miles, with a 48.3mpg according to the MFD. My commute is about 68mile round trip which is 90%highway and 10% city with stop and go traffic jams in between. I'm hoping to crack 50mpg on my next tank (1). which i don't see any reason i won't, as the first 300 miles of the dealer tank i was driving like a normal car and averaging about 44mpg, but since i read up on here about specific driving techniques my mpg has went up almost 5 in the last 200. Any thing else us newbs should be aware of to look out for?

Welcome! Sounds like you got your Prius about the same time as I got mine. If you check the different forums and do some searches you'll find a ton of useful info. If you don't know about the gas bladder (not tank) search on that - also on how to turn off the backup beep if it annoys you.

    Have fun! :D

I was lucky, i never had to be put on a waiting list. I originally went to the dealer to reserve my 1st color choice but when i got there they actually had my 2nd color choice (magnetic grey) still on the lot and available, the dealer didn't even know it was there, they were shocked when i asked if it was available. i just happen to see it as i pulled in. was my lucky day i guess :)

Congratulations on your new prius!!! One quick easy way to up your MPG is to increase tire pressure I run 44(front)/42(rear) ...Another way is to slow down and glide as much as possible also read up on Pulse and Glide this is a way you can get great MPG's..Good luck be sure and post some pics..

yes i've been practicing some of the techniques i've read on these forums, like i said the dealer tank ended up avg 48.3 according to the MFD, so far on the new tank with about 60 miles driven the mfd states a 55.5mpg.

    Kcissem,

Welcome to PriusChat. It's always good to see another Merlin-er on the
    boards.

Earlier posters have filled you in on the easiest/quickest ways to up our
MPGs; TP up to 42/40, and brushing up on the various techniques. Some
work better than others depending on your particular route; topo, lights,
    traffic, etc.

Although we still have 4-6 weeks of sticky weather ahead, its not too early
to be thinking about keeping your excellent MPG figures up as the temps
drop. That typically means grill blocks and perhaps a block heater. Use the
search tool to dig out info on these.

FWIW, when the temps drop below 60 deg F, on my out-and-back, mostly
urban commute, this simplistic, self-derived formula is a fair predictor of
what MPGs are attainable, albeit, not easily as the temps go below 40:

    Great Daily MPG = Temperature + 1/2 (60 - Temperature) -- Temps in deg F

If you're in/around Ballamer, I hope to see you out there, just look for Amapola.
