I know, a bit of a trick. Since you were the only one with any mild interest, go ahead and ask the next one.

Among other things, I got to go see both of my dentists now.

    So the floor's open.

Anybody should feel free to ask a question.

For those "of a certain age" & of certain interests --

Which enigmatic male musician who was a member of the 'Byrds' and the 'Flying Burrito Brothers,' and was briefly paired with Emmylou Harris, is alternately described as both:

    A. The originator of country-rock

    * * and **

    B. A talented trust-fund hippy who squandered everything

    ?

    (Hint: he'd dead) :(:rip:

    Hmm,
Roger McGuinn - hippie, country-rock, born relatively well-to-do, but hardly "squandered everything"
David Crosby - hippie, country-rock, born wealthyish, again, hardly squandered (albeit was "wasted")
Chris Hillman - hippie, country-rock, born to a well-off family, still performing still recording, how is that squandering?
Michael Clarke - hippie, no particular genre, not well-off, not particularly talented, drank himself to death at a young age, so high on the squander meter.

As for "briefly paired with Emmylou Harris", well who wasn't?

So unless I'm missing a Byrd, I still don't know who you are thinking of.

PS forgot about the Burrito Bros clue. Both Hillman and Clarke were burritos as I recall, so I guess that eliminates Crosby & McGuinn.

Sam, you are the Man! Real close --

The missing guy is Gram Parsons --

While country music was still hillbilly stuff & bouffant hair, Gram seemed to be the nucleus (along with all those guys you mentioned) of linking country & rock. Even buddied up with Keith Richards & may have influenced the Stones "Country Honk" version of Honky Tonk Women.:music:

Then he squandered it all by OD'ing on heroin & booze in a motel in the Calif. desert. Age 26, in 1973. :rip:

That's when the crazy stuff really begins -- He'd let it be known that he'd wanted to be cremated at Joshua Tree Natl. Monument in the desert. So, while his coffin was en route to family in Louisiana, somehow his buddies snagged it, got hold of a hearse, drove the coffin to the desert & cremated him, true to Gram's wishes. Yikes! :scared:
    They were fined $750.

He'd been born into a wealthy Florida orange grove family, went to Harvard, dropped out, etc ...

Anyway -- check out the various You-tube's of him (& a young Emmylou) & happy listening!

Gram still lives on my Prius CD! :hippie:

Yeah, Gram Parsons was OK, but when was he a member of the Byrds?

    Back from the dentists.

I was going to say Gram Parsons because of the country music and Emmylou Harris hints; but like Sam I too wonder when he was a member of the Byrds.

Interesting bit from Wikipedia about Gram Parsons and The Byrds:

"By 1968 Parsons had come to the attention of Chris Hillman of The Byrds, who, depleted by the firing of David Crosby and the departure of Gene Clark, were seeking new members. Originally conceived by band leader Roger McGuinn as a history of twentieth-century music, beginning with traditional country, taking in jazz, R&B, and rock, and ending with the most advanced (for the time) form of electronic wizardry, Sweetheart of the Rodeo was their only album with Parsons. Contrary to what is often claimed, Parsons was never an official member of The Byrds. As Chris Hillman recalls, "Gram was hired. He was not a member of The Byrds, ever — he was on salary" [2]. Nonetheless, as recording plans were made, Parsons (originally hired as a jazz pianist) began to exert a tremendous influence over the group, persuading the other members to leave Los Angeles and record the album in Nashville. Along the way McGuinn's original album concept was jettisoned in favor of a fully fledged country and western project, and included Parsons' songs such as "One Hundred Years from Now" and "Hickory Wind", along with compositions by Bob Dylan and Merle Haggard. However, owing to contractual issues, most of Parsons' vocals were removed from the final product. While touring with The Byrds in the summer of 1968, Parsons dropped out of a planned concert in South Africa, citing opposition to that country's apartheid policies, upon the persuasion of Keith Richards. McGuinn and Hillman subsequently fired him from the tour."

    Interesting Boo,
I wasn't aware Parsons played with the Byrds, "unofficial member" or otherwise. I guess I missed that one, but the Byrds clue looks to have been kind of borderline.
So Spectra, are you going to try another question?

Oh sorry, I missed that in the shuffle. The significance is that in a 24-bit color space, that's *red*. It doesn't look so nice in decimal... in hex, each pair of digits corresponds to Red Green or Blue (in that order). So green is 0x00FF00 and blue is 0x0000FF. Other colors are just combinations of those 3.

OK, guess I'll ask one. And this one has a picture!

Attached below is a picture of one of my favorite treats.

What is the treat shown? And what is its country of origin?
