Scan Gauge II install with pics

    Got my Scan Gauge II in the mail today. I read the owners manual and then spent a couple of hours trying to figure out best place to mount it, no place seemed like the right place. So below is where I ended up mounting it I will explain all the pics best I can..It took me awhile to get up the nerve to drill the hole for the cable..

    I do have some questions. How much is another cable? How do you reset the MPG on SG2? There should be something to fit in the 1/2inch hole I drilled that will make it look better I have seen rubber bushings with a pre-cut slit in them any suggestions of what I could use to make it look better, but you really cant see it unless you look over SG2..Let me know what you think... I like it...

    OK I found the answer to most of my questions :

    ScanGauge does sell extra cables.

    I programed some more x gauges into my SG2 and got CFE(current fuel economy) to work..

    I also found a rubber grommet that I think will work to make the hole I drilled look better will try and install it tommorrow.

    Extra cables also don't have to be bought from ScanGauge. Many other places sell them much cheaper.

    OK went to Advance Auto this morning found a rubber grommet that worked and made it look much better..I am posting some pics..You guys let me know what you think..

    that is really nice work. I have been considering where to put the scanguage if I get one. That is a nice spot and a nice install. Thanks for the post.

    Ouch! I can't bear the thought of drilling into my dash! Right now, I have my sg sitting on the steering column, with the cable folded and tucked into the gap between the column and the dash panel. It's only temporary.

    I plan on mounting my ScanGauge above the rear-view mirror. I need to have my windshield replaced anyways, so once they have it out I hope to have enough access to the headliner and A-pillar to route a 7ft network cable through the channels.

    Once I have the cabling in place, I'm going to make my own customized version of a BlendMount so I can do 2 scangauges mounted side-by-side just above the Homelink mirror.

    It was hard to make myself do it, but I think it came out nice and you cant even see it unless you get your head up passed the steering wheel and look around SG2. I did not like having the cord strung over the dash..I would caution anyone that attempts this when you are drilling only use a cordless drill with a wood bit and go real, real slow with the rpm's of drill as soon as its through stop.

    They do tend to be temperature sensitive if left on the dash in the sun. I use a dash sunscreen and still the SGII can become blacked out for a while until it cools down.

    Actually, I would use a step drill for this - it's much better for drilling plastic without tearing out and it automatically deburrs as you step through the diameters. You can get them at any big hardware store - Greenlee and Unibit are a couple that come to mind.

    I keep a fleece cover over mine when parked, even with the sunshade in the window. The LCD still gets darker with the heat but it quickly reverts to normal once the A/C cools the cabin down.

    I love it; drilling your car. Does look good. Mine is installed to the left of the steering wheel. The cable runs down driver side door jam (tucks in nicely and holds) and then under the floor mat to the OBD.

    That would have been my second choice, but wanted it in the same line of sight as my MFD and Dash and wanted to be able to get to the buttons easy..


    I have never used one of these but the wood bit I have in Pic that I used worked real well it went though it like butter..It also has the point so real easy to drill where you want to drill..

    When you leave the car in a parking lot do you take the scangauge with you, or leave it out in the open.

    The reason why I ask is because a few years back my friend's car got broken into for his CD player.

    My windows are tinted fairly dark, but if its real hot I do put it in center console I never take it with me. I do always lock my doors if I had to leave it in a public place for a long time I guess I would take it with me..

    I ran the cable up the left side of the steering column and tied the excess off using a twist tie through the hole in the bottom of the dash.

    I have the Garmin GPS unit on a bean bag mount with the Scangauge tucked in between the unit & the beanbag. It sits on the dash slightly to my left, in line with the inspection sticker. When not in use the entire assembly lives in a Staples box on the deck.

    Thanks again to the help I get on PriusChat!
    I installed my ScanGauge II today. I drilled a 1/2 inch hole in the left rear corner of the CD storage box. I easily threaded the small end of the cable into the cavity. Once plugged in, the ScanGauge is a great press-fit into the front of the opening - holding it in place. the cable sits behind it and is hidden from view. The door is fully functional and hides the unit when the car is locked.
    Drilling into "Sipper" was a tough decision, but at least it was in an inconspicuous spot.

    Sandman, what are the codes to get the Scangauge to show if EV mode is on/off? I see your "OFF EV" gauge and I would like to do that too, with my Coastal EV mod.

    I would be interested in those codes too. There have been several times that I've forgotten to turn EV off and lost a bar or too in the process.:(
