Thinking of buying... need advise

Im not 6ft plus but I am a good 120lbs heavier than you which equates to bigger around and I have adequate room for comfort. I have almost the same room as I had in the Ford Expedition! I have identical leg room if that helps.

But in the end you will need to sit in one and drive it to be sure. You could rent one for a day you know! Hertz has them I think.

 

It looks like the insane demand for hybrids may slack off a bit, allowing prices to go back to reasonable, so don't rush to buy. You might want to rent one for a week, try it on your daily commute, see if it's comfy or not.

 

I think renting one is a really good suggestion.
I am 6'2" 185 and found the car to be uncomfortable, at best. I had mine for 16 months - the car was rock solid mechanically.
I would particularly pay close attention to the height adjustment (or lack there of) and the non-telescoping wheel; these are the items that drove me nuts. Also – make sure you get the grey interior; the light ‘bisque’ was a nightmare.

 

You might be surprised. Check out this comparison at autobytel.com. This for the Prius, Camry Hybrid (another good option to consider in your case) and the Accord, respectively (all 2008's):

The Prius took a little while for me to get used to the seating position, since it puts the steering wheel unusually far from the body if the legs are comfortable, and the steering wheel is not telescoping (it does tilt though, little mistake in autobytel's site there). Other than that I've had no problems. I just got back from a 1400 mile road trip in the Prius with no ergonomic problems (600 miles in one day there, drive around a bit, 600 miles in one day back again). Averaged 55 mpg, but I kept it under 70 mph, tires are pumped up 10% over the doorframe recommendation, little wind, light A/C usage, watched the accelerating and braking.

We also have an Accord (2001 I think), and I can usually get bulkier items in the Prius than the Accord, thanks to the hatchback design and wider pass-thru from the trunk area. The Accord's trunk is definitely larger than the Prius' trunk, however. Back seat legroom is less in the Accord. Seats are probably better if I think about it, but not real noticeable to me.

 

I am 6'1" and 250 lbs. (mostly muscle needless to say) and I am VERY comfortable in my Prius. I used to have a 74 mile round trip commute. I had a CRV and the Prius has only slightly less space, but I don't even notice it.

went from an Acura TSX (basically an Accord) to a 08 Prius. I am 6.2 and 225 pounds. Took some time to adjust. Your visibility will be reduced slightly. The seats are a little firm and not great for butt support. It is still a great car and I've not experienced any discomfort on long trips. I say just get it. You won't be sorry.

 

When I researched Prius one thing I noticed was the many compaints about the seats.
I ordered mine with liquicell (Dr. Scholls for the butt).
I am 5'11" and 199,no problems on long trips.

 

Hey Gunguy, I'm 6'3", 235 pounds, with pretty long legs and I fit fine into my 2008 (my second Prius, BTW). I've driven my first one, a 2007, on several round trips from Silicon Valley to LA and back without any comfort issues. But as someone else said, the best way to know if you'll be comfortable is to rent one for a week or two and see for yourself - everyone's different.
