you might have to shop around radio shacks to find one that is willing to actually change out the battery for you. you would have better luck going to a place that changes out watch batteries for you.

when i worked for radio shack i often got nagged at for changing people's watch batteries, because of the possibility that the sales assosciate might break it

The battery in my fob is still working. Got the car in Sept 2004 so 3 years, 11 months. So far.

Update: I finally got the cover off my keyfob (hard to do, but it came off very easily once it decided to cooperate...) and got the battery replaced. Now all is well, so I believe this was the problem.

I only had the fob, and therefore the battery, for 2 years, which seems short. But then again, I seem to have some sort of confused electrical current in my body - street lamps and outdoor lights on buildings often go off/on when I am near or underneath them, and recently I could not get one of those electronic-eye sink faucets to turn on in a public restroom, but my friend had no trouble! So far I haven't been able to get my Prius to run off my body's current though...

I don't have anything new to report. Brought the car in today to dealer. Mechanic said he spoke to head office and they asked him a bunch of questions so he has to run more tests. I don't know what tests or what codes he's getting so it's wait and see. I'm checking in with them next week to find out the next step.

:frusty:This problem is still ongoing. Toyota head office has requested further tests, twice, don't know what sort. This last time they asked the mechanic if there has been anything installed on the car after purchase. They said no. But upon further thought they did install some sort of module for our headlights. As this is a US car we needed daytime running lights, so that is what they installed. So at the dealer today, this part was disconnected. Well, initially all of a sudden the SKS worked. Drove the car home, but since then the car is back to it's usual non-operating SKS.
According to Toyota, their reasoning for this is that US cars are wired differently. So my question is what does this have to do with the SKS?
Well, since the SKS is still not working, it's going back Fri. morning, and I think then they will start replacing ECUs and/or checking the door sensors and antennas.
So needless to say, I'm getting fed up.

    Great!

:clap2: The dealer fixed the problem, finally.
This week went in to the dealer again, and Toyota head office wanted them to do more tests. They were still under the impression that there was a third key in the car, or a third key had been incorrectly programmed and screwed (my word) everything up.
So this pm, visited the dealer again. At least they have good coffee!
The mechanic had the car for about 1 1/2 hrs. What I understand is that they cancelled the programming on my 2 keys, and then reprogrammed them again using different codes that Toyota head office gave them. So, so far, the SKS are working as they should. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
The mechanic who has been working on this problem was glad it has been resolved. He said it was a good learning experience for him as he had never encountered this before. It was a good learning experience for the service manager as well, since he didn't believe there was a problem.
Thanks everyone for your ideas on this.
