Just got the brake light recall done...

It is very simple just take a 14mm wrench and loosen the nut on the back side of the bracket. have to unplug it so you can back it out. Hint see the three nuts holding the square plate on? remove the plate to gain better access to switch. us your left hand to get in there.

 

Can someone PLEASE tell me if all Prius's (2004 and younger) got this recall?

 

I FINALLY got my 2004 Prius 6/04 and haven't frequented the board very much since then. The car has been absolutely faultless. So, now I find out there is a brake light recall? I have received NO notice of this from Toyota or the dealer. What is going on??

 

it's by VIN and not all were recalled. Call Toyota and have your VIN ready and they will tell you if your car is in the recall.

 

You will get regen indication on MFD when coasting without pressing the brake, so regen itself is not dependent on the brake switch.

They may have twiddled with the stroke sensor position as well as the brake switch. I think the brake switch is mostly for the brake light, power to ready, and cruise control cancel.

You can, when it is working right, turn on the brake lights without starting the hydraulic pumps if you press lightly enough. So, if you have a weak aux battery, press real lightly, then press power.

 

Well, let's put it this way; I have an early August '04 production, and my car did not qualify based on VIN.

 

Brake Light Switch Recall & 1st Anniversary of Ownership

We got our switch replaced a few weeks back. I haven't noticed any change after the switch was replaced. We had to take it in twice-- the first time the dealer called us and said the replacement switch was broken and they had to order a new one. We also got an oil change done at the same time, so we asked for a comp on the change and the service writer replied, "I'll adjust the price as best I can. How about FREE?" Sounded good to us. My wife brought the car back a few days later and they took care of it right away. We have been going to Jay Wolfe of West County (St. Louis) for the last few service recalls (reprogram CPU firmware and brake switch).

BTW, tommorrow (3/15/05) is our first anniversary of owning our Prius, and we got just over 28,800 miles on it SO FAR! As for gas mileage, our last tank averaged 47.6 mpg, after we drove about 1100 miles to Atlanta and back. And today, gas started going up here in the heartland to the highest I've ever seen it here: $2.15. Glad we got our Prius!

Glad it was that simple. I didn't think it would have been much with the only thing changed was the switch. Now I know what to expect if one of the other techs changes a switch and has brake problems. Thanks for keeping us informed.
