    Hi Prius Folks.

I'm a Prius wannabe. Been drooling over the car for the past 4 years. Now I'm in the market for a new car. I have a problem. Thru my job, I can get Dealer Invoice on a Subaru Outback wagon which after adding all sorts of options to the 2009 Outback Special Edition is equal in PRICE to the 2008 Prius with Package #2.

Here's what the dealer quoted me yesterday: I passed on this White Prius because I really want the Magnetic Grey Prius....
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
We have a white HG package Prius available-need to put down $500 deposit to hold it. If you want different color-would be a 2009-Prius with 3-4 months lead once ordered. Price 08 White HG $24,369 Plus 5% tax, Doc fee and Registration. An 09 Prius HG would be approximately $500 more.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

    What to do?
Is the price he offered a good or average deal? :(
I don't mind paying MSRP or waiting a few months....

Any thought on buying a 2009 Prius by placing an order on a '2009 Magnetic Grey, Pkg #2' are great appreciated. I love the Prius and the MPG's it gets but the Outback is such a good deal thru my job I'm torn on which way to go....

    Thanks for listening! :ear:

I paid list last month in Morristown NJ on grey/package #6 after a 2-month wait as I insisted on grey or black w/ package 6.

Your price seems correct, BUT do not let the finance shill talk you into an extended warranty. The dealer prices are not only non-competitive, but you have 3 years or 36,000 miles [whichever is first] to buy the warranty. Every finance hack will tell you that you must buy it now. Buy it from WarrantyShack through PriusChat for a big savings.

Thanks so much for the Feedback!
Sounds like great advice on the warranty. I do the same thing with my Macs. I wait to buy the extended warranty near the end of the following year.

Great choice in color my friend!

I'll keep ya posted on which way I go.
    Thanks again!

I am still a true newbie [only 200 miles], but I love the car. I am only getting 40mpg, but will learn the art of better mpg and the car gets better mileage [I was told] as it breaks in.

    Hi prius wannabe,

I'm in the same boat. But according to your statement above, you'll continue to drool over a Prius unless you actually get one! Especially if the $$ is equal. Subaru is a great car, but my feeling is that if you spend a little extra scratch now on a few more options to make it more tricked out (like the Suby) you'll have a car that you'll want to jump into and drive every day! Now that's Farfegnugen...oh wait, wrong company!;)

Hey confuuscious - where did you get your under MSRP deal!?!?
I like hearing that kind of pricing!!

I got it from Hertichs of Milford, Delaware. 302-422-2586 my sales person was Mark Mullin, really nice guy. i have been talking with them since may of this year, I had money put down at another dealership, Pohanka closer to where I live. I checked on the internet last thursday morning about 1 am they had 4 on the internet site. I called first thing 8 am to inquire about it, the price it said 27,074 for a package 5 spectra blue. they said they still have, i told them i would take it, did i need to put any money down over the phone to hold it, they said no just fax up drivers license and proof of insurance, i picked it up at about 1830 hrs that evening, i am so happy ive got it. got my down payment back from the other dealership. :cheer2:

    :lol::lol::lol:

    That's a good one...

Yeah, true that if I actually lived like many people do around those places, I would have a Prius for every day of the week...

But, some of us live in these places because we're basically SERVING the people that have a Prius for every day of the week!! (Or at least it feels that way...)

I'll let you guess which one I am...
    ;)

Today, I test drove a Mini Cooper and a Smart car and I just saw the new 2009 Honda Insight pic.

Also the new 2009 Honda Fit and 5 Door Yaris are on its way to showrooms... cheap cars with decent gas milage.

Not sure which way to go now. I'll probably throw on a new set of tires on my current car and mull my decision over for a few more months to see what kinds of actual prices are offered on the Honda Insight.

Please don't laugh or give me a hard time about it but I was robbed by the dealer here in Sacramento.

Ok, I was dumber than dirt for doing it but I ended up paying $33,500 for my 2008, pkg #6. No extended warranty package added.

I am still POed about it but the car is nice. I now have about 700 + miles on it as of today.

I doubt that you can find any body who paid more than me. I am not bragging about it but just wanted you all to know. So watch out for the SOBs.
