I'm sure I'll find out the answers when my car arrives (this week hopefully!) but I'm still curious about a few things...

Where does the Prius spare tire live? Is it regular sized, or one of those funny skinny tires?

On package #6 with the alarm system, is this alarm just for someone opening the door after you've locked the car, or is this going to drive my neighbors nuts when cats jump on it, or when the train goes by? From what I've been reading, the extra sensitive alarm system is a separate accessory, right?

    thanks :)

The spare is under the hidden cargo space in the hatch, and it is a small size temp tire.

I think it just goes off if someone opens the door without properly unlocking...mine's never gone off.

The alarm will go off if somebody tries to open a door(by slim jim or damage the lock),open the back door, hood, if battery is disconnected then reconnected or a wiring harness is connected as if to turn on the power switch. There is an option to install a Glass Breakage Sensor so that anybody breaking a window would set it off. The mic is in the car and outside noises typically don't bother it,even loud exhaust.

ReallyLily, check out this site for pictures of everything:

There are interior shots and exterior shots. You will be able to see the spare tire under the cargo area in the back.

Congrats on your new car. Good luck sleeping until it comes in. It's going to be a long while before you stop smiling.

Do you ever stop smiling about owning a Prius!? Really!? I have had my car exactly 38 days and have worn permanent grooves into the sides of my face from the manure-eating grin that is plastered there day and night.

Maybe when I am a seasoned owner of two or three months duration the feeling will have abated some, but I really hope it does not.

It is nice being blissfully, stupidly happy about something every day.

    Take care all,

    Tisza

Well, Tisza, smile lines are better that they worry lines you'd get over gas prices while driving other cars.

The other thing that will set off the alarm is if you - oh, lets say your 22-year-old daughter doesn't feel like going into the store you've stopped at. So you get out, lock the door and go on your way. Said daughter gets bored and decides that going inside is better and gets out of the car. Big Noise!!

Yeah. . .Great trick to play on wife.
Shut car down and while she is getting purse and things, quickly get out of car, shut door and hit door button.
Found out it's only funny the first time. . .after first time, having trouble laughing out of bloody mouth and broken jaw. :)

I've had mine over 3 months now and I still have that funny grin. You will have a grin for a long time to come also.

Anyone know what that hook think is on the left of the cargo tray? it doesn't look like it is any part of the car scissor jack. Dealer doesn't seem to know.

Danman, are you talking about the tow hook? On the front of the Prius is a small plastic cover that the tow hook, that is stored in the cargo tray, screws into.

Then you tie a rope and tow the car. This is for emergency towing only for very short distances. This is not to replace the towing that a tow truck would do. They would hook up differently.

No not that. I definitely know about that. That is stored in the center.

On the left on the rim of the bin looks like something that might hold up my hood, but my hood already has one.

Hey, whadd'ya know, I actually know what that's for!

When you open the cargo area cover by folding it up vertically, this keeps the cargo cover in the vertical position so it doesn't accidently close you on while you're rummaging around in the hold. Raise the end of the hook closest to the back of the car. The front stays attached to the cargo tray and serves as the pivot point. You'll notice that the hook fits nicely in a molded slot in the cargo cover when it's vertical.

I was thinking of putting that in the trivia thread but thought that everyone would know already.

    Glad I could share!

    Cheers,
    -bob

Yup, now I see it on page 198. Pretty obscure if you ask me.

Now that I think of it, a friend of mine did find the place on the cover where the hook goes, but I didn't think that's what it really was for. Now I know he was exactly right.

    Here's another late night question...

On the energy screen with the engine, battery, and spinning wheels, which direction is the front of the car? Does it face left or right?

    Left.

To paraphrase Crash Davis, "The battery goes in the back, big guy."

There have been reports that the wheels always turn in the forward direction, even when you are backing. I don't watch the display then.

The wheels on the MFD always do turn forward. Now, I'm not starting at the screen when I'm backing up, but I have pretty good peripheral vision and on top of that I use my mirrors when backing out of my garage onto my driveway.

I just thought I'd add this. The eyelet which is in the trunk that is for "emergency" towing is actually used during shipment to lock the vehicle down to the deck of the ship. If you look real closely to it, the threads have been used unlike the other tire change kit items in the hatch. There might also be marks in the eyelet from the cable or chain which was used to strap the car down.
