Thought some of you may be interested. Not sure the statement about the Prius being upcharged by the same amount is all that accurate though.

I suppose that's better than nothing. Still, that translates into what, maybe an extra 2 mpg?

2-3 at best. its a series hybrid, not a parallell hybrid like a prius.

the premium, they gotta pay for their rental of toyota technology

I belive that HSD is actually series and paralell at the same time because of the two MG's and the power split device.

I'd so very much like to see GM do something that we could all be proud of. Here's hoping they at least combine this mild hybrid technology with their disabling cylinders technology. Maybe between these two recent technology improvements they can show some marked improvement.

My worry is what they might do to the hybrid's reputation. In the 1980s GM followed the lead of some European car manufacturers and put deisel engines in a good many GM cars. The result was a disaster. Those cars were reliability nightmares. GM almost single-handedly, soured, to a virtually terminal degree, the U.S. public concept of diesel engines in automobiles.

Yep, and stuff like this certainly will not help:

GM Recalls More Than 4 Million Pickups

DETROIT (Reuters) - General Motors Corp. on Thursday said it was recalling more than 4 million full-size pickup trucks to replace tailgate support cables that may corrode and fracture.

The massive recall, a blow to recent claims of improved quality at the world's largest automaker, covers certain 2000-2004 Chevrolet Silverados and GMC Sierras.......
