I have a friend who recycles Prii and he was telling me that one of the hardest parts to make fit correctly in the hood. He said it is not unusual to spend 45 minutes to an hour fine tuning that part and he probably rebuilds 100-200 of these a year. Good Luck (I mean that in a serious and not fascicous way)

    Jelloslug,

Wow! My hat is off to you. I'm not sure if you've spent more time working on the car or chronicle-ing your adventure to share with us! Which takes up the majority of your time? :) I intended to come to the site and spend a good hour investigating audio upgrades but have been totally sucked into this thread instead. The work you've done on that car is nothing short of phenomenal, and beyond that you've set a standard for informational posts. Congrats!!

There is no way I'd ever do anything like this. But I'm enjoying it from my armchair.

Can't wait to see it put together. Soon. Soon.

Yes. I have been tracking you progress on and off. Things are looking great. it is amazing to see what can be done with a totaled car. Just imagine what we could all do if we had the patience, work area, and experience that you have. Looks like you have done a great job... and probably saved your self a ton of money in the process

I have spent quite a while to get it just to this point so I can understand how it would take a while to get one lined up. You should have seen it when I first bolted everything together. The hood overlapped the passenger side headlight by 1/2" to begin with..... If your friend has any tips to share I'm all ears.

Yes I did BUT it all depends on the primer you use. I used a sandable primer that is made (and needs) to be sanded before you topcoat. If you are using a sealer primer they cannot be sanded so make sure to ask your paint supplier when you are buying your paint.

It cost $11,000. I just added up to total cost for all the parts since I have now purchased everything to repair the car and they came to $4742. This brings the total to $15742. I just got a call from the dealer that I put a deposit down with a few months back (I still have not canceled the deposit) and they just happen to have gotten in a Spectra Blue Mica package 2 and they asking $25183 for it (sticker price is $25483). That puts me at saving right around $10000.

JS, did you install a new passenger-side airbag? I remember seeing it deployed in the earliest pictures. What precautions did you have to take? Just curious. :)

The drivers side looks fine, it's the passenger side that's off. I'm not in a giant hurry to order it as the current hood will do the job for the time being. I will probably get it in a month or so after the car is on the road.

Looks really good from here. I'll bet you are getting anxious to get it on the road. Congrats on saving ten grand. You can drive it down to the dealership to cancel your deposit on the other one.

Yes, I installed a new drivers and passenger side airbags along with new seatbelts, clockspring, passenger side air bag short harness, and a new dash top. I did not do anything particularly special with the airbag. I just installed it. Airbags are not volatile sticks of dynamite, they will not just go off on their own.

With the money I save I could go buy another wrecked one and fix it for myself ;)

Hey.. We got PriusLimo and his stretch Prius he made from two salvaged Priuses...

Maybe you can chop a Prius into a sporty 2-door on your next project.
