After a roadtrip from Southern California to Northern California, I noticed my brakes make this weird farting noise that I can alter depending on how I pump my brakes at a standstill. Anybody experience this? and if so, can you shed some light on my situation? Thanks!
Awhile back, there was a TSB on this. I don't remember the TSB information, but dealers have given me strange looks when I asked about it. If I remember correctly, the TSB called out steps starting from purging out the actuator with fresh brake fluid, to actual replacement of the actuator assembly. (It's been a LONG time since reading it, so I'm not really certain about any of this!) Note that to do this type of work, you either need a recommended scantool and the service manual, or time at a dealer. Prius is not like the olden days where you just attached the bleeder bottle and pumped on the brakes! I actually hear this in my car when the car has been cold soaked. (Ermm. ok.. cold for me!) That's any time when water outside isn't liquid any more!
If you were to characterize the noise as a squeak, then the attached TSB may be of interest. Note that brake system performance is unaffected by the presence of the noise.
I've had a similar issue but I only notice it in cold weather when I am pressing on the brake. It doesn't happen when I am in park. I'm going to run this by my repair shop. Thanks for the PDF
Hey. That happens to our Prius every time we go up to Big Bear in the winter. I'll have to ask about that TSB next time I take it in for service.
Darn. I see that the TSB is only applicable if the car is with the 36 month/36,000 mile warranty. I'm past that already.
