Can any of the Houston area Pruis owners suggest a good dealer for service? I bought mine in Alvin and don't want to go that far if I can avoid it (not to mention I don't know about their service either). I am closest to Don McGill and Sterling McCall. I would sure appreciate your help!

(I previously posted this question in a reply to another topic but figured I had a better chance of a response with a new topic.)

DO NOT...I REPEAT..DO NOT take your vehicle to Don McGill Toyota. The only signature dealership in the Houston area and for that matter the state of Texas is Fred Haas Toyota World located on I-45 near Spring High School. If you are coming from Houston, go north on I-45 and take the Holzwarth exit. Continue on the feeder and you should come to it shortly. Anyhow, Fred Haas has superb service and is rated #1 in the area. The number is 281-297-7000. Ask to speak to either "Sparky" or John James. If you have any further questions, please let me know.

Hey, guys. Guess who's moving to Houston in August? Hmm... me! I'll be going to Rice next year. Just decided today, in fact, after I got waitlisted from WashU and they want to hold crumbs on front of my face until this summer.

Thanks, craig0812, that was exactly the info I was looking for. And kinda what I expected about Don McGill.

And to tennisbird86, congrats on your admission to Rice. Let me know when you find out which college you are in. That's in June or so as I recall. This won't mean anything to 95% of the posters, but I was in Jones College shortly after it went co-ed and as it began its Beer Bike reign! Not that I rode or anything but it is March and thus Beer Bike season. College pride swells . . .

<offtopic> Ah, you went to Rice, too? My father went. What year?

I'll second the motion for going to Fred Haas... I've been to them as well as Don McGill. Fred Haas' shop is leaps and bounds better on service.

Extemely clean shop - even has tile flooring in the shop area - it's pretty impressive. Mike Bowen is the service rep I always use, he's pretty good, doesn't treat you like an idiiot if you ask questions.

As far as Sterling McCall goes, I've never used them - because a few folks have told me bad experiences at their shops.

I haven't had my Prius serviced yet, but when I looked at Prii at Fred Haas they were very nice and the place is big and clean. I'd try them just for the way they keep their dealership.

I've used Joe Myers for years and have been happy with their service.

Cpwaites, have you seen the improvements to Jones? Wow. And as a Brownie who helped with theater and graduated in 2000, before the new construction, I am terribly envious of the new commons. Congrats to tennisbird--Rice rocks. Never biked for Brown, but my husband was a chugger in a champion year!

Only driving past. C'mon, I live a whole 6.15 miles from there (so Mapquest says). You expect me to visit? Actually, I am a very bad alum, which is explained only in part by having children. I should break down and visit Valhalla sometime. I hope it's still there . . .

As for the commons, what I had heard was that Brown, Jones and Martel share foodservice. But it sounds like you have been there. Are you saying there are separate commons? And even more important, can I tell my Baker College wife that the commons she gloats about has been bested by Jones?

My in-laws live in Clear Lake but our church is near Rice, so we stop by about once a year. The Far Side has a single kitchen, but separate eating commonses (?) for each college. The new Brown commons is fabulous, a Japanese-looking style. Sadly for you, I don't think Jones' changed much. So take your kids to play Frisbee on the lawns and see all the new construction (I like Martel a lot), but don't try gloating to your wife or you'll be shut down. Valhalla is still there to my knowledge, but it's not so busy on a Sunday morning when I'm around... There's been a ton of construction, so you and your wife will both be surprised!
