Did I just get lucky or what? This dealer in North Chicago, Classic Toyota, had 3 on the lot available for sale and 7 more coming in! I had called a couple of places and they said 6-8 months! Didn't charge me above sticker. My Package 6 is coming in 10 days!! I look forward to driving it! Did I ever get lucky to find this place!

Yeah I've been noticing more new Prii on the lots of the dealerships in my area when there weren't any to be had a month ago.

I think it's just the general condition of the economy-- Things are so bad out there, even Toyota had a 30% drop in sales in September. Those who were thinking of buying a new car probably decided to hoard their cash and see if they can squeeze another year or two out of their existing car, and those who wanted to buy new cars can't even get a car loan.

Very tough out there, very tough. Heck, my 401K is practically non-existent after the past few days. :p

Congratulations on your new car though!

A few dealers around here including my local dealer have a few in stock. I think it depends how soon you look after the ship comes in. After the ship docks the dealers get all their Prii all at once but if your looking a few weeks after the ship came in, before the next ship comes in all the dealers had a few weeks to sell out.

What color did you get?? If it's Magnetic Gray, congrats...you just pulled off what I've been waiting for since May. Ours is due sometime between tomorrow and Wednesday.

    Technically, it's in Waukegan.:D

I have all my service done there--decent guys, good customer relations.

However, I've never managed to find a car there when I was looking. Either they didn't have what I wanted or the price was wrong. Good job!

Gas is under $3 a gallon (around here anyway, as of today) and people aren't making as many big purchases since credit is tighter and we're all scared witless about the market. I think more dealers will have more Priuses in stock going forward.

    Congrats on your find, though!

I think you got lucky. I went to the dealer in Arlington Heights today for an oil change, and walked around a bit - they had two Prius in stock, one in the showroom, one on the lot, but both were used - one with 15K miles, the other (in the showroom) with 28K miles. Lots and lots of new vehicles lined up in rows, but not a single Prius among them.

Every dealer in the metro Phoenix area (there are 12 of them) has several in stock. I noticed one had 18 vehicles.

In the Houston market, the dealers that have them in stock have been asking over MSRP, although they are proud to tell you that they are only $2k above now, versus $3500 previously... It took about 3 months to get mine, and wound up getting it from a different dealership than it was ordered through. My original dealership had slowed down on their allotments, and had told me it could be another 3 months, and right after I got off the phone with them, another dealership I had reached via internet months and months ago, called, letting me know that there was a Prius, just as I was hoping for...color and all, coming in over the next few days..it was at the port and going to be allocated to an entirely different dealership, and somehow they got it put in their name, and charged me $500 less than MSRP... I was ecstatic... Plus my original dealership was WONDERFUL and was happy that a Prius that matched my wish list was available quickly as i put on a lot of miles. They gave me my deposit back and a hug. Congratulations ... You are going to LOVE your Prius

Found mine in Escanaba, Michigan on Friday, picked it up the following Tuesday; flew up, drove back. Detroit area waiting time is 10 to 12 months.

That's pretty funny. When we got ours in 2006, we drove down from Traverse City to Fox Toyota in Rochester. The wait in the Detroit area was much shorter than up north. I suppose it swings back and forth.
