Finally took the plunge. With the gas prices on the rise and only one of our vehicles driven routinely, it was time for a change.

I'd just like to start out by pointing out just how unbelievably ridiculous the gas prices are. It used to be that you'd only save money switching to the Prius if you were driving a full size truck.

I did the math and my findings were incredible. Turns out that right from day 1, the Prius will save almost 40 bucks a month (net, because the car payment increases but the gas cost decreases).

Obviously the Prius's payments will last longer (got about 3 years left on the Solara - which gets 26mpg). If the price of gas AVERAGES $6/gal over the next 6 years, the Prius breaks dead even. Any higher and it's money in the pocket.

And that's a 4 cylinder! Anybody out there who's driving a big gas guzzling truck or SUV and doesn't need to REALLY needs to go out and buy a Prius.

But not yet. Wait until I get mine first. Ordered 2 days ago and it won't be in until late SEPTEMBER!

When I bought mine - summer of 2007, I calcualted that I would come out ahead of buying a Camry in 5 years if I got 44+ MPG in the Prius. To my surprise, I get about 58 MPG in the Prius (even better). I also calculated on only $3.00/gallon...

The crazy part is that the dealers don't even know pricing, packages, colors, ANYTHING! Our salesman thinks the price is only going up about 400 bucks. We want Spectra Blue Mica so he put that down as our #1 choice and and black as our #2. We want the current package 2 because of the smart key and stability control, and he assumes those will both turn into standard features.

My aunt also wanted a Prius and she is on the waiting list...her dealership did not give her a specific time as to when the Prius will arrive. She will have to deal with her 18 mpg SUV for now.

When we picked ours up today after having reserved one about 3 weeks ago the salesman said that it was a good thing we did because if we reserved one today it would arrive in July or August!

When I was obsessively researching the purchase it seemed to me that there were (and still are) a lot of package 6 models available but we didn't want all those features or to pay that much. However, if we had, there were around 15 available within 50 or so miles.

It was hard to wait even the three weeks and we're happy to finally have it. Good luck with your purchase!
