I finished the Deniers about two weeks ago and then read Gore's earth in the balance for a second time. I'm convinced this is a political power/money movement and the real science long ago has been left behind.

Actually, you have "proven" nothing other than you are one of those who opt for a future that is beyond the ability of the world to finance or produce. Further, you are so imbued with the idea that "carbon" is the problem that you discount the issues surrounding your chosen "solution." Tell you what, I'll continue this debate when an EV is put into service that can be produced at a rate and a price that will allow a changeover in less than a generation. That vehicle will need an un-refueled range of at least 400 miles, can be recharged in an hour or less, and has a life (in terms of a storage unit) that exceeds 5 years.

Of course it is political. The "science" relating to climate change, the "causes" of the financial and credit crisis, etc. all are based in political science, not hard physical science or economics. It is all about a play for power, using either concern for the environment or concern for the impoverished (or the middle class) as a rallying cry. It is the old socialist playbook which has been around since the latter part of the feudal period and has only had the terminology updated. The idea is that the private sector will pollute, waste and rob the general population and therefore the government must step in to regulate (and eventually take over) to save the planet, population, economy, etc. And if anyone believes that I have some bottom land in the center part of south Florida....... Keep in mind that the guy in charge of the congressional committee that is responsible for oversight of Fannie and Freddie used to run a male prostitute out of his apartment. Whether or not climate change is man made, fossil fuels are a limited resource and changes need to be made; however, change without a plan and for the sake of politics is sure to fail.

Bob, welcome back. Have you seen Better Place's plans and vision? I'd be interested to know what you think of this approach.

Politics is not a science. It's a blood sport. Do you honestly believe climate change is just some left wing conspiracy wih no basis in reality?

No one disputes that earth's climate changes. It has always changed and always will until our sun extinguishes itself. Then the change will be rapid and have real consequences for us - extinction of all life on earth.

What is under question is the significance of mankind's release of CO2 into the atmosphere and the extent of the consequences. On the basis of what we now know, there seems to be nothing that threatens our existence other than the hot air from politicians who benefit from the idea that governments can solve all problems - even the manufactured and fictitous.

So, yes, the hysteria fostered by the UN and some of its IPCC modelers is completely politically motivated and has no basis in reality. The 'solution' - involving a centralized control of the economies of nations through 'carbon regulation' is an attempted political power grab of global proportion and should be resisted by all freedom-loving peoples.

If anyone would like to learn more about the politics of global warming I recommend the latest PBS Frontline episode: HEAT which you can watch online.

Also, the latest episode of Dan Rather Reports on HDNet is also very informative. The episode is titled "...Going, going..."
