pookie, welcome abroad and hope you really enjoy your new Prius. I'm glad you saw the post and will buy the warranty from Troy and not rub your dealer's face in it because sometimes other dealers try to ruffle Troy's feathers. It's better do do what you did, politly say no thanks and then just buy the warranty from Troy, no fuss no muss LOL

Re: Toyota Service Contracts / Extended Warranty - Discounte

I just found this site tonight and as a new Prius owner (3-15-05) I was ecstatic that I would be getting a ton of advise and ideas from so many well knowledged and experienced Prius owners for free. Now I find out that this site is going to give ME over $1000.00!!!

Thanks Danny for the great site!!! I hope to support you even more in the future. And thanks Troy for the fantastic offer. I hope to hear from you soon.

Has anyone had the opportunity to use the Toyota extended warranty? It seems like a good deal, but I was wondering if anyone has had first-hand knowledge of it.

Re: Toyota Service Contracts / Extended Warranty - Discounte

Just passing the 100 mile mark.... well.. as much as I drive.. flying past would be more appropriate...

When I went to the dealer.. they offered me the low low price of 1400 for the lowest priced package... I don't remember the details... but I do know there were three other packages... the one they highlighted of course was the 4000+ dollar one that offered simonizing and color guard and seat protection and stain stuff and god only knows what else... I was in a daze from just buying my first new car... and writing out a check larger than some of my previous jobs' yearly take-home. Had I not gone into that room with the knowledge of the price being offered here, I would have probably used up the rest of my loan check on more protection.

The question is though... are those just toyota packages like the one offered here that are still available to me up to the 3/30, or is this something that the dealer had as a special?

Are these other more expansive plans really necessary, or are they there to prey on the "new car" paranoia (I forced myself to have lunch in the car just to get beyond that "AHHHH.. DIRT IN MY CAR" feeling)?

Any information/insight y'all can give would be appreciated.

Re: Toyota Service Contracts / Extended Warranty - Discounte

I bought a Prius 10 days ago and decided for the peace-of-mind factor to get the 7-year extended warranty, which cost something like $1,600 or $1,700. After seeing this posting, I feel like a fool. I have a couple of questions. Does the Priuschat warranty cover everything the dealership warranty covers? Also, how difficult is it to cancel the dealership warranty so I can get the Priuschat one and save almost $1,000?

To get the quickest turnaround on answers to your questions, I suggest emailing Troy directly at [email protected] and ask any questions directly.

It is covered in this thread (I really should put together a FAQ for the OP) about how to cancel your existing warranty, how the warranty offered through PriusChat is the official Toyota one, etc.

I appreciate the heads up Danny... with 13 pages it is hard to find all the info sometimes.

Re: Toyota Service Contracts / Extended Warranty - Discounte

Greetings PriusChat comrades! I’ve been seriously lurking [IMG] here for about a month while I impatiently await the arrival of my ’05, Millennium Silver, BC package, from Capitol Toyota in San Jose, CA (should arrive in about one more month). I expect to be posting about Bluetooth phones, uploading provocative photos of my cats, and racking up big points very soon now.

This thread finally drove me out of the woodwork. First, I’d like to thank Troy and Danny for the extended warranty deal, which I will be purchasing. Secondly (and slightly off topic, sorry), I’ve read nearly every post on all 13 of pages of this topic (whew!) and saw two unanswered queries about the add-ons dealers attempt to sell (like simonizing, undercoating, color guard, etc.). Are these worth the cost? If so, what should we/I expect to pay? Can they be purchased independently from the dealer? Let us/me know if this is covered under another thread (my search turned up nothing).

Thanks for all the great info. This forum is truly a wonderful resource.

I'm another very satisfied customer of Troy's. He was very quick to respond, and had some helpful advice too. I especially appreciated his suggestion that I consider a lower and cheaper mileage plan because I've only been averaging about 10,000 miles a year so far. Even though I finally decided on the higher mileage plan (I'm anticipating more road trips now that i'm almost familiar with driving on the right side of the road!), it still felt good to know that he had given some thought to my situation, and wasn't just out to sell me the most expensive package there was. That really impressed me.

Anyway, I mailed him my information last week, he called me back for credit card info this week, and three days later, I get a receipt in the mail. It was very quick and easy. I would highly recommend that anyone who's considering the extended warranty purchase it from Troy.

I am soon to be a very happy customer of Troy's! I called him /on a Saturday/ and got an instant response and great information. I especially love that it helps support PriusChat. My dealer in Seattle is also really great and started the cancellation process as soon as I asked.

I have to hand it to my dealership, they really sold me on the cost effectiveness of their Platinum warranty (only $1200 more than Troy's). I am not annoyed at them, as I understand that that's one of the few ways they can make money on the Prius, And I am glad that they were not annoyed that I wanted to cancel my Warranty. He just asked that I be sure it's a toyota branded warranty, I just told him it was from another dealer, and he was fine with me getting it. He didn't ask who I was getting it from, which makes us all happy. I'm looking forward to this nice bit of $$ to be taken off my loan.

    Thanks Troy, Danny, and PriusChat!

I was in the same boat. My dealer charged me $1450 for the 6 year / 100000 platinum warranty. I cancelled the warranty with my dealership. It took a couple weeks to get the cancellation confirmation from Toyota. I then placed my order with Troy and now have a new warranty with an extra year for almost $500 cheaper.
And yes, the warranty Troy is offering is the same official Toyota platinum warranty that you would get from your dealer. You will get a contract in the mail from Toyota Extra Care.
I would definitely say it's worth cancelling your existing warranty and saving yourself the loot.

    The high price of Platinum.

I wonder if I have paid the highest price for the Platinum warranty. The 7/100/50 was discounted to $1985.
    "Oh what a feeling"
Way to go Sterling McCall, Houston.

I've canceled it and emailed Troy.

When I bought my Prius last week, the Dealer offered me an extended warranty underwritten by the Dealer and his insurance company rather than by Toyota. They won't tell you this unless you ask

I, for one, think it is most important to be absolutely sure that the extended warranty being purchased is backed by Toyota. There are many horror stories of "no name" extended warranty companies folding without notice, leaving their customers with a worthless piece of paper.

The deal offered here is a good one. The price is right and it is the official Toyota product.

PS: I am just another Prius convert and have no affiliation with Danny or Troy.

This is my first use of the discussion medium.

I purchased my 2004 Prius in May 2004. At the contract signing session, I was under the impression that the warranty that had been standard for the previous model Prius was for 100,000 miles, but that to hold the purchase price at the current level, only a 75,000 mile warranty at the Platinum level ($1395.) was available. I now have just over 11,000 miles on the odometer, so might be ahead to switch to Troy's deal, if no other costs appear than the $25 termination/cancellation fee quoted on page 4 of the Toyota Extra Care Platinum agreement. Am I reading the discussions correctly?

I've had my new 2005 Prius for over 1 month now, and I absolutely love it. I'm glad I didn't purchase the extended warranty from my dealer, as I'm going to be sure to purchase Troy's deal.
Thanks Priuschat for all the information.
