I just got my 2009 Prius pkg #6 on Monday afternoon while I was at work. I had an issue where my Smart key didn't work properly from the get go tried it with in 10 minutes of my car being delivered. I took it the dealership Tuesday morning to have it checked out and they had to do some work to get it working. Had my my satellite radio activated on my satellite ready system today. I asked before my car actually got here if while they were working on the satellite situation if they could install the harness for the Viastech MultimedialinQ and they said no problem. I called this morning and ask if it was going to void my warranty if they installed the MultmedialinQ harness and was told that it shouldn't be a problem. Got the call this evening saying that my stellite radio is installed and that the harness for my MultimedialinQ was installed and all is working well, however if I plug my Multimedialinq in and "something blows" it won't be covered under warranty. Why they didn't tell me that this morning when I specifically ask I don't understand and why if that was the case they did not call and tell me before they went ahead and intalled it I don't understand. I thought if it were installed by the dealership it would be ok especially when they told me before it was done there shouldn't be a problem. Now I'm afraid to hook it up and to make matter worse they ran the cable to the floor instead of the glove box where I asked that it be put, so it sets us for accidental situations it my passenger puts their foot on the cable. Is everyone at these dealerships this way???? It took me almost 7 months to get my car I haven't had it in my actual
possession for 48hrs and now my warrenty is no good. I know everything that goes wrong will be the fault of the harness I had the dealership install and they have it documented because they put it on for me. Should I pay to have them take it back off??????????? All my sales person is interested in is if I fill out a survey coming my way with an all excellant rating. What's up with that?????

First you should lodge a complaint with the service manager. Second, since the person you talked to that morning (if you know their name, tell them manager who it was)before the installation said it would be no problem, tell them that you want them to either honor what their representative said or remove the harness at their cost. If they opt to remove the harness, you should also ask for a refund on the installation since you would not have had it done had you been told the truth. Finally, if they will not work with you on this and insist on you paying to have it removed, don't pay them. Find another dealer who will do the work or will honor your warranty with the harness installed and let the first dealer know that you will be letting everyone know about their shady dealings including the General Manager, your friends here on PriusChat, the BBB, etc. Also let the GM know that you would have continued being a customer had the service department treated you right.

If you get them to work with you and honor the warranty, get it in writing!! If you have the harness removed make sure your warranty will be restored before you waste your time. I hope things work out for you.

The way I look at it, your warranty should not be voided. This was a dealer installed item, so bring the matter up with the service department. Good Luck.
