March 24, 2005 | The new sales pitch for President Bush is that he's a forward-thinking visionary, right? His policies in the Middle East were, it turns out, not about the bloody debacle in Iraq today but about democracy spreading throughout the region in a glorious future. And his plan to fix Social Security is not at all about privatizing the jewel of the New Deal but simply about ensuring a safe and secure system well past 2052.

But when it comes to dealing with the many energy-related crises we're facing, can the Bushies really go on pretending that their policies are any more forward-looking than a rerun of "That '70s Show"? ...

Can anyone tell me what the USA energy policy is?

What are we doing to lower our dependence on both foreign and domestic oil?

Drilling in ANWR will take 12 years to pay off and will give us about a million barrels of oil over 8 to 10 years. (To figure it out, if used all at once, which it won't be, all the oil in ANWR will equal 4 to 6 months worth of current USA usage levels.)

Stricter CAFE rules [that also apply to SUVs], and other conservation measures will give us [a bigger than] 1 million barrels of oil in no more than 2 years and the savings will go on forever.

So Bush's plan= 1 million new barrels starting in 12 years lasting about 8 years.

Almost any kind of conservation plan= 1 million barrels saved starting in 2 years or so and lasting forever.

Again, what the h*** IS the American energy plan, aside from ANWR and Iraq?

I'm confused. This article is on the home page. How do things get on the home page? I presume they get there because an "admins" puts it there.

The Prius is seen by many as a potential start to solving some of our energy problems. Why would an article about how little the US is doing in regard to energy solutions not be news worthy?

By the way, do YOU know what Bush the Bush energy policy is? Beyond ANWR and Iraq?

No, the Admins don't put up all the news. Anyone can.

The news Categories are Prius News, Hybrid News, and Site News.

I agree, this absolutely doesn't belong. I can go to any number of other sites and see stuff like this. I come here for the Prius and Hybrids.

That's why there are specific forums for discussions like this.

Wacko left opinion? Let's hear your views then. I'd love to be enlightened. I have the same question as prius04...what IS the energy policy of our fine country? Seems to be drill anywhere and everywhere and invade anywhere and everywhere for oil. simple enough. But not acceptable or even remotley sustainable. Conservation, alternative energies...now ya got a policy.

    DBarry,

my rookie poster mistake. i thought the article's tie-in to praising toyota and honda for their hybrid approach made it appropriate for the prius fora, but i did vacillate between the news forum and the environmental forum further down the page. you may be right that i picked the wrong one, and if the admins think it should be moved down to the environmental forum that's cool, too.

Moved to Environmental Discussion. This is more OT than Prius-related. Thanks for posting, though.
