Seriously?? That blows. I guess I've been contaminating the recycling chain with these things.

Okay, I just googled and in fact the cups are not recyclable. They used to provide incentive for customer's to bring their own thermos reusable cups around here. Wonder if they'd still allow for this.

I find that most all stores give a discount for using your own cup including convenience stores and coffee houses. These discounts range anywhere from 5-25¢ and my cup is 24 oz while many large cups are 16-20 oz.

I also find this same discount per bag by using reusable canvas bags at food shopping stores.

In the past year I have noted that a larger number of the shoppers are using their own cups and bags so it appears to be catching on.

If you're willing to use salt water, there's a whole bunch of it. But considering the huge amount of energy that goes into water treatment, I would hesitate to say that water's unlimited.

Not me but my GF does. I buy her their giftcards so I guess I do indirectly.

I go to Starbucks a lot because I heard they only use coffee harvested by unionized lesbians of color.

Free 12 oz Starbucks coffee on Election Day - just say you voted (and bring your own cup if you're worried about recycling).

(Fiona knows the way to every Starbucks in a 20 mile radius!)

Can anyone confirm if they're doing this or not? I heard it may violate federal law to do the promo they way they set it up.

i live in the coffee-crazy pacific northwest (ya ya, home of starbucks...) and i dont do starbucks but not because of any specific reason other than i prefer to support my local economy if i can and not go broke (which means i still shop at big box retailers, etc) and expresso stands are the easiest way to do that.

as far as the running water thing, i know an expresso stand owner, and i will ask her how she does hers.

I'm not paying $5.95 for a latte regardless as to where the waste water goes. :D

After voting this morning, I got my free cup of coffee from my local Starbucks.

But speaking of running water, the coffee was weak and watery.

I'll probably return to Starbucks a couple of times later today for more free cups. I'm pretty fond of free food.

    Yes, they are doing this.
Yes, it MAY be violating federal law... However, since they do not ask you to PROVE that you voted (no "I Voted" sticker is required), there is no grounds for charges. In fact, you can just ask for it, and get it.

It isn't just Starbucks. You can get free donuts at Krispy Kreme, discounts off services at some spas, and free "adult toys" at Babes in Toyland.

    Wow, that's pretty steep.
A Grande soy latte runs me about $3. less than $4, for sure.

A Grande brewed coffee is about $2. Actually cheaper than (a regular cup) at the sit down cafe next door, and is consistently better coffee, besides.

And our Starbucks only has tall, handsome, flirty guys

Starbucks - free tall cup of drip coffee.

Krispy Kreme - free star shaped donut with red, white & blue sprinkles.

Ben & Jerry's - free scoop of ice cream.
