Ok, so here is my problem. I bought me 07 prius base model used, and the previous owner must have asked the dealer to shut off the beep notification when they lock/unlock their doors.

I did my research on here and elsewhere on the net and all the information i've gathered seems to say that i need to go to the dealer to get them to hook up their toyota computer and change the option that way.

So I go to my dealer and he says that i can change it myself without any sort of Toyota Scan tool. He said if i look in my manual, it will tell me how to do this. I've gone through the book backwards and forwards looking for how to do it and have come up empty. I called him up again and he talked with the Prius tech to confirm that its something i can change. The tech confirmed said that it was something i could do at home. He said if i wanted him to do it, it would cost me 60.00

Ok, so here's my question, am i correct in thinking i have to get toyota to do it with their Computer?? Or is it something like programming a new key where i have to just find the correct instructions on how to change it.

    Thanks in advance.

I don't have a definitive answer, but I have been around these parts for a while and I haven't heard of having the **external** beep turned off. You can easily turn off the backup beep (that you hear inside the car) if you perform a magic incantation that can be found in the forums. The dealer could well be right but it would be news to me.

there is no manual way in the repair manual. you have to use the toyota dealer. they can change the buzzer answer-back for wireless door lock function using their scan tool or techstream computer.

I'm not sure about the 2007, but for the 2006 model year at least there is NO beep available when you lock/unlock the doors. It only flashes the parking lights once. When you unlock, the lights flash twice. Okay, it does beep at you if you try to lock and one of the doors is ajar.

I imagine you have the same situation. Read your owner's manual to find out, it will describe what happens (end of the chapter on keys).

That's for packages without the SKS. With the Smart Key System, you get a very civilized beep and the flashing lights. It's not a big horn honk like some cars, but just a little beep.
