I show Cinemagic listed on XM Channel 76 on the new lineup....is the post above accurate that it won't be back until '09? Seems odd to shelve it for 2 months.

So what is it you guys like about Cinemagic? Never listened to it.

I guess I'm kind of a dork in that I love listening to music scores, and Cinemagic basically takes those scores and plays clips from the movies in between songs (typcailly they play the audio clip from the movie that coincides with the next song from the score). Then they do some fun ones like playing movies such as "Fast Times at Ridgemont High", but instead of scores they play the rock songs that were a part of the movie.

It's a nice change sometimes, and it's especially good during the holidays.

Opie and Anthony were already part of XM, I just listed the new stuff XM listeners get with the "Best of Sirius".

Sorry my confusion I have Sirius and over the past two weeks I have been bombarded with the ads for "Best of XM" package to get the Virus, the NBA, and Oprah.

I used to have XM in my previous car and honestly after experiencing both I liked the XM lineup better then Sirius especially the music selection.

Just discovered that the REAL NPR crossed over and I now get that on XM 134!!! That XMPR was pretty lousy.

I miss Sirius' Coffeehouse channel. Good acoustic covers of R&R songs.

On a different note; it sounds like a sirus-xm bloodletting for the employees at both companies since the merge took place this week, possibly hundreds of newly unemployed workers. And...the new sirius-xm company have lots of debt that needs to pay off short and long term. The good news is the company did see growth and the newly merged company expects to survive the lower advertising revenue.

I'm not aware of any deals on subscriptions, other than the reduced price on longer contracts.

If you're with AAA, you can get free activation.

I read this article also. The co. has had its ups and downs over the years. I luv my XM radio. We listen to it on our home theater system and it blasts upstairs too. I also enjoy it in my Prius which I've only driven 4 times since i've purchased it (still doing modsand driving my other hybrid). Hope there will be a new acquisition of XM/Sirius (idk with that kind of debt-ouch!) Wouldn't want to lose satellite radio .....:cheer2:

Does the capability to get both the NFL and Major League Baseball with the same satellite radio package now exist?

I've never had satellite radio, and I'm not sure I want it any time soon, but one thing that was holding me back was that I couldn't decide which one I wanted more - NFL on Sirius or Major League Baseball on XM.

I'm more of a baseball fan than an NFL fan these days (going against the tide, I know), but while I live in the market of my favorite baseball team (clue - they just won the World Series), my favorite NFL team is not the one that serves the market where I live (clue - someone posting here under the name of Tdoff1 appears to share this favorite team with me). So, if I had gotten Sirius, I could have followed my favorite NFL team's games, but if I had gotten XM, I could have kept up with more baseball games.

When I was on vacation recently, I got to experience satellite radio for the first time, in our rental car (not a Prius unfortunately - something from one of the Big 3 - asked for a Prius, but they said they couldn't get any). And it was Sirius, during a time when I would have preferred to have gotten XM. This was a vacation long-planned before my team made it to the World Series. We were in the car during the first two games (fortunately, were home for the rest of the Series). While ESPN radio carried the game on broadcast radio, we couldn't pick up any outlets very well. Whatever station that can be picked up weakly at 1000 AM at night in Western Tennessee, thanks for letting me hear Chase Utley's first inning homerun in Game 1. We did get to watch the end of game 1 and most of game 2 in our hotel room.

As for the rest of the satellite experience, it made me somewhat interested in possibly getting satellite radio one of these days.

I've been going round and round about putting a Sirius tuner/interface in my 2008 #6 Prius vs XM, and now I'm wondering if it's a mistake or able to receive XM stations. XM states their new radios are all Sirius compatible. Does anybody know if the ToySCI/SCC1 Tuner will accept XM channels?

Well, they just merged most of their channel line up so one would say you are already receiving many of the same channels. Of course that is a very different from a Sirius tuner able to receive an XM signal or vice-versa. The ability for one physical radio to receive both signals has not materialized yet.

both sets of satellites are transmitting the one now combined sirius/xm lineup. the merger rules required by the fed's require that both type radios must receive the combined signal. at some point they may be able to transmit both type signals with only one set of satellites but not yet.

This was in response to my question, "Does the capability to get both the NFL and Major League Baseball with the same satellite radio package now exist?"

Is there a specific package name that includes this capability? I saw something in Radio Shack that was either a Sirius package with "The Best of XM" (or some such name), including about 8 XM channels, none of which was Major League Baseball, or an XM package with "The Best of Sirius" (or similar name), including about 8 Sirius channels, none of which was the NFL.

This is probably true for the car market.

Thought I'd post some insider info that may or may not be known around here (I haven't read all of it). Just some background, I do the marketing for Sirius/XM radio for Daimler Trucks North America (aka - we are the ones who build Freightliner semi trucks).

Sirius/XM have several new packages with the merger, but one thing to note, in order to get the new combined packages you have to have a radio that is ALA CARTE ready! This is important! If you have the old Sirius radio you will not be able to receive XM specific channels. Yes, if some of the channels merged and are on both you will, but if there are any still specific to that network you have to have a new ALA CARTE radio.

I haven't seen any of these new radios yet that are built in to our trucks (or cars), but the portable units have a new ALA CARTE radio (ST5TK1B).

Oh, and FYI Sirius has the better network overall. Also their satellites work better than XM due to the way they gravitate around the globe. XM has stationary satellites planted above the United States that don't move, while Sirius satellites rotate in a figure 8 allowing better coverage across North America. So if you go into Canada, especially further north in Canada, XM is almost non-existant. Sirius is the way to go if you ask me. Now that they've merged, I don't know which satellites the ALA CARTE receivers use.

Hope that helps clarify some things.
