Apparently people are collecting the Hybrid Logo. The theory is that some people might try to use them to drive in the HOV lanes. Won't they be surprised when they find out that you also need a sticker to drive in that lane. At least that's how California is planning to do it. I don't know about Virginia. And Massachusetts is talking about it too.

Thieves Taking the Hybrid Off Of Hybrid Cars

General Hybrid News: If a deal exists, there's always a crook trying to take advantage. San Josean Martha Denning reports that someone this week swiped the ``hybrid'' nameplate off her Honda Civic gas/electric car. ``I assume,'' she assumes, ``it's to put on a regular Honda Civic if the carpool law passes or to park free in San Jose. Maybe they think that the cops will just see the big `hybrid' label and not check any deeper to see if it really is a hybrid.''

That's sad but don't Civic Hybrids also have the "Gas-Electric" decal underneath "Hybrid"?? Plus, the easiest way to spot is to look for the antenna at the front/middle of the roof as opposed to pillar mounted

My partner and I had s**t and toilet paper on our windshields the morning of our solar photovoltaic/hot water system open house party. He drives a Jetta TDI on biodiesel. Were we targeted because: We have an anti war peace sign lit up in the upstairs window? Because we're gay? Because we represent some sort of threat to the petro consuming entrenched Red State mind set of some passing teenagers? Random act? We live in Seattle, which is about the most eco-friendly city in the country.
I'm thinking maybe I should steal a Hummer logo and put it on my Prius so maybe the rednecks will leave me alone.
There are a lot of pissed off people out there who think rising fuel prices are some sort of liberal conspiracy. The Prius is a very obvious poltical statement.

Virginia requires a clean fuel license plate for HOV travel, a Hybrid logo on the car is not sufficient.

I recall kids used to steal the Turbo logo off of Saabs back in the 1980's when they were popular, maybe it's just a crime updated for the new millenium.

    Bob:

I'm throwing out a WAG that as far as probability perhaps 50-50 due to the points you mentioned. Very sad how a few a** holes out there resort to that to get their "point" across. They probably can't carry on more than a Grade 2 conversation level, so they have to resort to that.

Maybe because they have s*** for brains so had to s*** on your windshield? You have my explicit permission to beat the living s*** out of them if you catch them.

I'm about as right-wing "nutjob" as they come and I certainly don't think it's a "liberal conspiracy." I think it's more of a "consumer feeding frenzy brought on by artificially low input costs and absurdly easy access to credit."

    But that's just my opinion.

I "practice what I preach" WRT conservation in the "true" Conservative sense (Fiscal responsibility and austerity, saving for the inevitable rainy day, not p******* it away, taking responsibility for my own actions, etc).

And before I point a finger at somebody, I always carefully examine myself in the mirror. Hmmm, looks like I had better be careful before pointing the finger at somebody else.

There are people out there who "fear" conservationists and who especially "fear" gays. Beats the h*** out of me why, it's like watching the boob tube. If you don't like the channel, instead of trying to outlaw that particular channel or blow up the gawd*** station just use the remote button to go to another channel.

I think a lot of people use gay-bashing and environment-bashing as an excuse to commit random acts of bulls*** violence. My Dad used to always tell me as a lad that excuses were like sphincters: everybody has one and they *always* stink!

The thing is, the very people who commit these random acts of violence are *not* brave but are real cowards. They're really afraid of what is happening so they try to pick out "easy" targets.

Around 10 years ago in SLC I caught some punks keying my beautiful black 1990 4Runner. There were 3 of them and just little 'ole me, but I don't think they expected that I had taken a lot of Personal Defense and Personal Security training courses for a job I had at the time.

So I beat the living dog s*** out of them. I mean I WAILED on them: broken noses, at least one broken arm, etc. I then warned them that if I ever caught them keying another vehicle again, I'd kill them. I then casually got in my 4Runner and slowly drove off. Cost around $350 to fix the keyed paint on my driver door.

Funny thing is, around a month later I was with some of my co-workers at a local mall, I was in civvies and they were in full uniform. One of those punks literally came around a corner and bumped into me. His eyes went wide and he took off like a shot.

I'm not saying that violence is the answer to every situation, but a lot of these punks are cowards who need nothing more than a good s*** kicking to knock some common sense into them.

I suggest you and your partner take some personal defense classes and perhaps invest in a good digital video recording system. The price of miniature CCD cameras and especially digital recorders have really come down in price.

If you can capture video evidence, that is almost impossible to refute in court. Usually the guilty party will offer to settle out of court, since they'll not only be stuck with fixing their damage anyway, but also court costs.

Jayman: Thanks for your supportive words. I make a distinction in my mind between "conservative" and "right winger". A conservative, to me, is someone who, like yourself, "conserves" either money, values, or resources. "Right wingers" are folks who see the world through very ideological glasses and will stop at nothing to implement their vision(or delusion) of things. Right wingers have co-opted the Republican party to the detriment not only of Republicans, but the rest of us who have to labor under their Bible Belt fascist ideas of moral values, world domination, and the body politic.
