    all-inclusive expenses for mercedes is now ahead of gas for the lexus by 4 figures. since DH forgets to bring home receipts for diesel, i don't know the exact number, but estimate in the mid $2000s range. i overestimated the break-even cost, counted a big number twice against the merecdes.

    the greaser needs tires and is due for registration next month, which will cut a couple hundred out of next month's gains. still, not a bad performance at all.

    I want to get a diesel at some point. I wish BMW would release the 335d already... I don't want to deal with a hybrid and I'd like to have comfortable and fast vehicle. Burning used oil ftw.

    finally, i remembered to take a picture of the old beast. i intend to get shots of the whole system (fuel tank, conversion kit under the hood, etc) when DH is home. hopefully in a week or so.

    excluding diesel costs, greasecar expenses are now almost half of operating expenses for the lexus. savings are actually up to a significant percentage of my annual income...

    DH's classes across the state end in 2 weeks! he's coming home and doing an internship at the university hospital, so we can carpool in the prius.
    :party::bounce::dance:

    have yet to add up diesel receipts but this car brought his education financially within reach for us.

    that also means our need for the ol' greaser and oil filtering setup will end... anyone here interested in buying it? :madgrin:

    final operating result:

    the greaser has paid for itself, and saved us about $3700 in addition. we're cleaning it up over the next week for final sale, and it's going on ebay. whatever we sell for will just add to how far ahead we are on the whole thing.

    and yes, i did bias heavily against the greaser. i added up every cent we spent related to our ownership of the greaser- up to and including the multiple early versions of wvo filtering setups and the consequent frequent wvo filter replacement during the learning curve, and the AAA membership we didn't end up using- in my calculations. and for his regular driver, our little old es250, i just added up the cost of gas. no theoretical oil changes or other maintenance items or anything counted against the es250.

    we're impressed.

    WTG Gal!!! gotta realise even with the extra expense of the filtering and time to do it should be factored in, but when gas was $4 a gallon you were probably saving at least $100 a week
