Washing the key fob

    A search didn't find anything on this so I thought I'd post it...

    Doing laundry last week, I emptied the washing machine and discovered my Prius key fob in the bottom of the washer. After the spin cycle it felt dry when I took it out. I left it lay overnight anyway so any moisture could evaporate. Then, wondering if I had killed it, I took it out to the garage. I first tested it by locking the doors with the button on the door handle, walking away, and coming back to unlock by grabbing the handle. It worked fine. I also tried pressing the lock and unlock buttons on the remote and they worked as well.

    I was very glad to learn that the fob was still alive and kicking.

    Many reports...all have survived AFAIK.

    Consider yourselves lucky. These things might be "water resistant", but anything with moveable buttons can leak. And if there is water in it, it WILL eventually corrode the circuit. I would leave it in a warm dry place, like near a radiator (95 F or so), for a week and hope it dries out fully.

    After finding garage door openers, papers and Chap Stick (which melts) in the laundry, I decided to do something to prevent this problem with our keys. So, I installed little key hooks near our entrys. The first thing we do is hang up our keys when we come in the house.

    Now if I could just find a Chap Stick holder . . .
