I have a 2009 Prius with a Razor phone and it works great through the system. Occasionally though while driving and in conversation, the Bluetooth signal will "drop" for no particular reason and I have to begin speaking through the phone itself. Is there any way to reconnect the Bluetooth signal between the car and the phone while driving? So far, the only thing that works when this happens is to pull off the road and shut the car off, then turn it back on which activates the "auto connect". I have not found a way yet while driving to reconnect this signal. Any advice please? Thanks!

That doesn't happen with my Blackberry. however, sometimes when I turn the car on, it doesn't connect with the BB (happens once per month or so). When that happens, on the Blackberry I turn off the bluetooth then I turn it back on, and the car detects it.
See if that works for you too.

By any chance, is your phone is hidden in a holster or in a pocket?
Some BT chip performs more poorly than others.
I have had several Moto cell phones w/o such issue.
My previous SE W600i was much worse in BT. (connection dropped when phone blocked by my winter coat.)
(Not claiming that all SE phones are worse than Moto's - the samples are too few to judge).
Maybe you were unlucky and got a cell phone with poor BT.
With mine Moto V3xx, my BT remains connected to the vehicle (Prius and CX-9) even at 20ft away in a holster.
    Amazing.

I have the new Apple iPhone 3G and the 2009 Prius with Bluetooth.
Never had any problems with dropping signals or loosing connections.
It always finds my phone and connects automatically.

In fact, the iPhone 3G give me the option (on an incoming call) of dropping off of the car speaker system and using the iPhone instead.

Both Ema (my 2006 Standard) and Myrtle (Wife's 2007 Touring) occasionally have this issue. Even if the phone is exposed sitting in the cup holder the Bluetooth may drop out. It happens very rarely but has happened in both cars.

One thing we found is that the PassKey in the Prius would drop out occasionally. The only way to tell this though is if you have more than one phone programmed into your car, we have 3 in each. When you switch from one to the other it gives you the standard "Disconnecting "XXXX" phone and connecting "XXXX" phone" when this is displayed the PassKey should be displayed underneath.

Most people set this as 1111, 0000 or some other easy to remember number. If it isn't being displayed it has been theorized that the "Auto Connect" function doesn't work properly without the required PassKey. Basically the "hand shake" between the phone and the car isn't made consistently and can drop out.

We have had success with resetting the PassKey in Ema or Myrtle and the problem has seemed to fix itself until for some unknown reason it is lost again. No idea why the Bluetooth in the car would lose this setting :(

Anyway that's my $0.02, hope it helps.

I appreciate everybody's input here! Sorry it took so long to get back. I do leave the phone out exposed in the cup holder and it is rare when it drops the Blue tooth signal. I was wrong though in thinking I had to cut off and restart the car in order to re-connect automatically since "Auto Connect" has been selected. I do have to stop, but I can leave the car running and switch to the Blue tooth screen and simply hit "Connect". I wish there was a way to do this while driving, it's just one button to push. Anyway, thanks again for everybody's help. Take care.

I have a Sprint LG Muziq, and I sometimes have an option during the call to "transfer to bluetooth headset" or it will say "transfer to phone" if I am already connected to the Prius bluetooth. You might have to scroll down the Razor to get to that option. I say sometimes, because it is hit or miss if I have that option or not. Sometimes I don't have the option available. Once my Muziq is connected, it has never disconnected during a call.

Also, I know this probably isn't what you are looking for, but on the Razor, there will be an option to connect to a bluetooth headset, and if you select the Prius headset which on my 2008 is called "Hands Free" then it will most likely connect to the Prius without having to do anything to the car since you have it set to Auto Connect. If that doesn't work, on the Razor, you can turn off bluetooth and then turn it back on. I know that you probably can't do that while you are talking. So that is a pain.

Do you have another bluetooth headset? If so, does it ever disconnect while you are talking? If not, then I would say the problem is the Prius, if so, then it might be the Razor. If it doesn't do this with another headset then I would take it in to the dealer. It shouldn't be disconnecting. They can test it with another bluetooth phone and see if it disconnects for them.

I have a 09 Prius w/pkg 6 and am interested in the Apple iphone. Does the phone dial from the phone book, make calls using voice recognition & was it very hard to pair the phone to the car? Thanks for you help...

I have not even tried to use voice recognition, so I don't know.

It was easy to make the Apple iPhone 3G pair with the 2009 Prius #6.
I used to have a Blackberry and just switched to the iPhone, so I used both phones in this car. My initial reaction is that the iPhone was easier all around in dealing with the Bluetooth connections.

The car finds my iPhone automatically when I turn on. I have never had a connectivity issue of any kind. I can connect the iPhone with the audio jack and run my iTune music through the JBL stereo.

All around I am satisfied with the combo iPhone 3G and the Prius. No conflicts.

The pairing is pretty simple to do with most phones. You can have up to 6 phones paired to the car, but only one selected/connected at any given time. You can only switch phones when not in motion.

As for the phone book, the Prius has it's own so you have to manually download it to the car, it doesn't support the newer PBAP (Phone Book Access Profile) Bluetooth profile that allows the car to dynamically "see" the phone book on your phone.

Similarly, voice recognition is done the "old fashioned" way, where you need to record a voice tag for up to (only) 20 phone book entries, so you can use the "dial by name" command and say someone's name.

This is how it works in my 2006, which I believe remains the same though 2009...?

    Hope that helps.

I don't understand my 2009 manual says that I should be able to upload my cell phone address book into the Prius, similiar to the way I do it with my garmin. how can Toyota allow this to not work?
