Installing DIY EV button on top of CoastalTech Mod

    I'm frequently using EV mode 30-40 times a commute on days when I don't have a chance to force stage 4, and the two second delay is starting to get to me so I want to install a DIY button on top of the coastal mod.

    but I'm have no idea on electronics so please correct me if I'm wrong.
    To do this I need to:
    1) tap the coastal wire inserted into pin #27
    2) tap the wire to pin #1 to ground it
    3) connect the two wires I tapped with to radio shack button

    Or do I need to remove the coastal mod all together except for the wire into pin #27 if the relay for the coastal mod would prohibit the button on top of it from working?

    If it were me, I'd remove the Coastal Mod, but use the wire to pin#27.

    I converted the EV mod over the weekend.

    I bought the momentary switch suggested in the cal cars instructions, 22 gauge speaker wire, and one pack of Radio Shack part #64-037 (these are the snap connectors similar to the ones that come with the coastal kit and come in a pack of three sets)

    Process to convert:
    1) Unplug both male quick disconnects
    2) Tap wire to pin #27 which you placed into the plug with the snap connector
    3) Attach male ends to speaker wire.
    4) connect male ends to the female ends on pin #1 and pin #27, doesn't matter which one goes on which pin
    5) run speaker wire as in cal cars instructions, and follow instructions from there

    Also, I used the extra two quick disconnects to make a quick disconnect connection for the momentary switch on the driver side of the car.

    It took me about two hours to do it, most of the time was making the wires for the quick disconnects and running the wire from passenger to driver side.

    I'd appreciate it if anyone could confirm the following just for my own peace of mind.

    I have had the Coastal EV mode via the CC stalk for 2 years now, and I too have grown weary of the 2 second delay. In addition, I recently noticed a growing "wobble" in the stalk itself...............which goes to prove that when you use something for which it is not intended you can expect to eventually suffer the consequences. Needless to say, I immediately dropped activating EV mode via stalk after noticing the wobble. CC continues to work just fine, and is not used frequently.

    So this weekend I installed the button on top of the Coastal EV mode, just as Douglas001001 did. His posts here, along with various other procedures by Evan & others, were very helpful. And it works! Hooray! While tempted to remove the Coastal EV setup, at the end of the day I had no desire to remove the plug from the ECU and fiddle around with my friend PIN #27. :) I'm sure you can sympathize.

    I did, however, have some trouble following Douglas001001's five steps above to the letter, and I'm sure it has something to do with me not him. But I thought I'd explain exactly what I did and have others verify that there are no potential problems down the road.

    (1) I did not remove any of the Coastal setup.

    (a) The purple wire continues to be connected to the purple wire going to PIN #1.
    (b) The white wire continues to be connected to the white/black wire going to PIN ??? (the PIN in the middle of the plug.....i can not recall the number).
    (c) The pink wire continues to be inserted into PIN #27.

    (2) I connected 22 gauge speaker wire to the pink (PIN #27) wire with 1 Radio Shack part #64-037 snap connector.

    (3) I used the other two snap connectors on the driver's side to connect the appropriate two EV button wires to the appropriate two dimmer wires.

    (4) I successfully followed all other EV button setup instructions provided on various threads.

    Everything sound ok? Again, a confirmation is just to relieve my paranoia. Douglas001001's procedure (1) & (4) above was a bit of a head scratcher for me, but I'm sure it is all on my end.

    After confirmation, I may do a good write up. I figure there are more than a few with the Coastal EV mode who should be encouraged to install the button to avoid "stalk fatigue". Those who prefer to avoid another tangle with the ECU can do so pretty painlessly with the override.
