If you get the Post, one of today's questions in the Car Talk column (page G2) was mine, regarding recommended service items for my 2005 Prius. In general, the Magliozzi Brothers said that the recommendations are bogus. In case anyone is keeping score, the dealership in questions is Kay Jennings, in Springfield.

It would be so great to find a dealer that was not trying to make you think you need things you don't. Because when a service advisor tries to upsell me or get me to pay for something truly not appropriate, I loose all faith/trust in the dealership. I am sure they are out there, but I have yet to find one. This is not unique to Toyota and the Prius..but it seems many dealers for all the manufacturers do the same. They are viewed as the 'experts' in the care and maintenance of your vehicle, but it seems their goal is more to move cash from your wallet to their's rather than provide proper care for your car.

That said, I know there are dealers and mechanics that are honest and do a great job..but there are so many of the others that everyone gets viewed with doubt.

For those that would like to ready the Post article, it is here..starting about 1/4 down the page.
