I just had the brand new (Feb 2008) PA20-TOY ipod interface from USA Spec installed... and it is Amazing! There have been a number of negative comments about USA Spec but thet seem to have overcome the issues with this new release.

I have full ipod functionality via the touchscreen and steering wheel controls with full text display. The only sign that there is anything installed is a simple cable in the glove box. I plug in the ipod and, after about 30 seconds of delay, all the information pops up on the MFD. When I switch modes on the radio, the ipod is automatically paused and resumes when I switch back to the DVD mode. It even manages to charge the ipod for one hour after I switch off the Prius then stops charging to save the battery.

I have a 2007 package #6 with navigation. I can highly recommend this ipod solution, just make sure they don't try to sell you the older PA12-TOY or PA15-TOY models; it's well worth the extra $30 for the PA20

    Price, and installation price?

Does it work if you don't have NAV?

well, I still haven't heard a reply from the company, so I am moving on.

I just ordered the VAIS SL2I through Amazon marketplace. The actual seller is unique_electronics. The total came to 229.98, then I had 10 bucks of gift cert credit bringing it down to 219.98. Not really that much more expensive than this solution. I just finished a contract, so I'm just biting the bullet and getting the more expensive one.

I have been reading too many posts by frustrated users of DICE, and the Silverline interface looks kind of confusing.

Do you mean the console between the seats, or did you have to "mount" the cable in one of the dash gloveboxes?

OK, I spent $120 for my iPod.
Now, tell me, why would I want to pay another $200 just to play it thru my Prius sound system?

I'll just use the earphones, thanks.

Or, is there a direct connect method, without needing all the display and steering wheel button bells and whistles?

pvan3067, I have looked on Crutchfield.com and cannot find PA20 – TOY, they only have the PA15-TOY. Did you need to call instead of ordering online?

    Thanks!

Todya, Crutchfield shows the PA20-TOY when I checked for a 2006 (Prius package 1), no nav/jbl.

Does this kit from Crutchfield really work? I just bought a 2008 Prius with no nav system and has the single disc CD changer.

Yeah, you can buy a $5 cord from Radio Shack ( 12-Inch Shielded Stereo Audio Cable - RadioShack.com - I don't have this one, I actually found a cord in my stash of misc. audio cables), plug it into your aux port in your center armrest (that's where it is on my '08 pkg #2), and just use the controls on your iPod. That's what I do with my Nano.

I've been looking for a good ipod interface to the factory nav for a while now and this seems promising. I had a couple of questions. Does it disable any other features of the stereo like satellite radio or the cd changer? I have a 2009 with package 5 Nav ver. 8.1, will this work for me?

Hiya! I've just bought the same for my '04 nav. Tell me please, did you access the back of your audio thru the center speaker grill, or ended up disassembling the entire dashboard? Thank you!

That's the way I use my nano in my 07. I also have another cord plugged into the 12v socket in the center armrest that can be plugged into the nano to charge the battery if it runs low. Works great for me for not many $s. :)

I know I'm going to get a lot of criticisim for this, as I've seen in other posts, but does no one want the ability to play video? I also want something that has the ability to hook up an external hard drive via USB.

So (this may be a dumb question), can I do this with my '06 Prius. All I want is to be able to hear my iPod tunes through the car's speakers.

Since iPod's video capabilities are very low anyway, plus it can't serve as USB host, - your solution is an external DVD/flash player. There are plenty on the market, from cheapest chinese ones to hi-end (which we'd hardly need). Some can even be controlled by MFD/wheel buttons, if you find a proper adapter.

Not my toys, though: I don't spend days in my car... :p
