New OBD2 scanner for Nokia N800/N770 released

    This morning I saw an announcement over on internettablettalk.com:

    So, in order to get a Can-view type setup, one would need:
    1) A Nokia internet tablet
    http://www.nokiausa.com/internettablet
    2) An OBD2 scanner like this:

    3) A bluetooth serial converter:
    http://www.rovingnetworks.com/firefly.htm

    There you have it! A wireless connection to your car. It looks like the Carman SW can be customized to look at different codes through the CAN bus, not just the default set.

    The N800/N770 can also be used as a GPS, provided one has a wireless bluetooth GPS receiver:

    Just a heads up, there's also a tool called "Dynoscan" that's been on the market for a few years (I have had it since before CAN-View) that does a lot of this...not with as fancy of an interface, but it's an excellent tool and can be used with PC or PDA.

    I have Dynoscan as well and it has paid for itself with only 3-4 uses (mostly friend's cars). It only supports generic OBDII information in the Prius. Auterra support told me they plan to offer manufacturer specific functions at a future date. That would be cool.

    Yea, they said that 2 years ago too when I got the Prius and I even e-mailed asking if they'd include Prius/hybrid specific info in an update.....no updates yet. So I wouldn't hold my breath on that point. Still, it's a good tool. But, honestly, at the stated cost of $200 I'd definately go for the CAN-View for the versatility and added info if your primary interest in for the Prius. That said, I think I paid $160 via e-bay or some place for mine and CAN-View didn't exist at the time.

    Re: New OBD2 scanner for with Toyota enhancements

    Looks like Auterra finally released their scanner software that allows probing most of the Toyota systems, but no control (Writing).
