New software upgrade to the V710 (local Verizon store will perform the flash -- takes about 20 minutes) fixes all bluetooth connection problems to Prius EXCEPT uploading/syncing phonebook. I had mine flashed today and now the phone will ring when receiving call in Prius and signal strength indicator on MFD works correctly. To check your software version on V710 select Phone Info/Other Information/SW Version. It should read 8700_01.40OR. Other forums have list of rest of the fixes this upgrade brings -- and a caution that it disables the loading of new rings from the transflash card -- but for Prius/Verizon customers -- it's the best we can get for now.

I suppose we ought to be "grateful," and I'll get my 710 upgraded, but not having the phonebook feature is a major annoyance. Any word on a fix there?

Is there an alternate, maybe wireless way to load ringtones without buying them from Verizon?

I'm not sure the phones I like at Cingular will be available, and if I can get a V710 dirt cheap and without signing a new contract it might hold me over until later...

There will be a work around for a phone book thanks to Coastal E Tech and CoastalDave. The Nav modification will allow access to the destination pages. If you input a position and add a phone number to it you can use that to call. I have only a few places I would want to call out to. My Nav screen is going to look funny as they are the ER, L&D, main hospital number and my office all with in a 1/4 mile of each other. I guess I don't care that the screen will be junked up in that area I pretty much know how to get there by now and don't use it to get to work. I will have a phone book though. I will keep this phone till my contract runs out then dump Verizon.

Putting the numbers in the NAV system is one way -- but you also can use the 18 locations for 1-touch dialing. You create them by accessing your log of incoming and outgoing calls and marking them for 1-touch. You can then select them even while moving EXCEPT that if you want to dial them while moving you'll have to remember (or have a separate cheat sheet) for which number is in which of the 18 locations -- because the actual numbers disappear while moving (but reappear when stopped). I've put the most used numbers in the first few 1-touch dial spots and for the others I just find the number in the phone's address book and press send (as I always did before getting the Prius) -- then close the phone and put it away as I continue the call and end on the bluetooth. Closing the phone doesn't shut off the connection when the bluetooth is working. I agree it's not perfect -- but it's effective -- and I love how the bluetooth connecton auto mutes the music/radio when sending/receiving calls.

There is some discussion on phonescoop.com about this problem. You can email a ringtone to your phone but it will cost 25 cents. Some people are talking about an email method that you cancel out of and the ringtone is still available. (I haven't been paying close attention) You can also get the upgrade and then hack the seem to restore the transflash transfer ability.

Just got the v710, and got the new flash installed.

Just love the fact that when hubby and I are driving together we can both talk to the person on the phone via the car stereo system - the huge speakerphone, so to speak...that is way cool.

Do wish the phonebook would transfer..

Got the v710 yesterday from my local Verizon store within a Circuit City and lo and behold the proper software load was already done. It worked in the Prius out of the box! Love it. The phone book is still a problem as the Prius asks for an upload but there does not seem to be any way to do it on the phone. I'll keep looking, but given that Verizon is far better than the alternatives in the last survey by the FCC, I'm glad I finally have the capabilties.

Well, for V710 owners, there IS a way to transfer your phonebook into the Prius....but you need another bluetooth device....either laptop or PDA. I will be happy to send you what instructions I have for either. The laptop instructions came from someone else, but I used my Palm Tungsten T PDA and it worked just fine.

Hello there -- I just got my prius this weekend, and I have verizon because it is the ONLY provider that works at my house. (I tested em all)

You say the v710 answers incoming calls... do you mean the phone itself rings, or that the car rings? This is a big deal for me as I usually listen to music or whatever and would prefer the car to ring.

    Thanks!

The way it works for me is the V710, itself, rings and the audio mutes on the Prius during an incoming call.......no ring through the car's speakers.
