    I found a (gently!) used 2002 Prius for $6488. I test drove it and it was blast to drive. The big problem is she's got 106000 miles on her.
    Would this be a huge mistake or an amazing deal?
    Any opinions?

    Hi jsbach;

    Just 106K ????

    Here's Jesse's Prius with 300,000+ before it was totaled in an accident (he got a Gen 2 afterwards):

    It should be even more of a gem if it was well cared for and a service history to prove it.

    Cheers;

    Use the mileage and the "unknown batterey life" as a bargaining tool if you feel you can and barter the price down a little. Sounds good to me.

    i got lucky as far as a used prius goes. my stepson's fiancee moved out to boston with him so i purchased her car for the lease buyout which was 13k. so i got an 06 im guessing its the base car cause it only has a backup camers, but it does has the hov stickers. the thing looks, smells and feels brand new ( she had it detailed once a month) even with 30k on it. i went from filling up every other week to filling up once a month plus and i couldn't be happier that im getting 40-45 mpg with my normal driving habits. back on topic though, buying any used car is a crap shoot unless it's a certified used car and even then there are bad ones. imho, most people end up getting into trouble with a used car cause they do no research at all. just my .02
