I have a 2007 Prius with package 3, the 6 cd changer, supposedly the better one... and after having the car for about a year and a half, I put in a cd yesterday and suddenly none of the cds will play, none will eject - nothing.

I obviously want to fix it but was wondering what my best approach would be - go to dealer - some sort of self fix or some other way of fixing.

any chance this is covered by warranty?

    thx.

Are you still under 3 years and 36,000 miles? If so, it will be a warranty issue.

    This is a dealer issue.

yes. 14,600 miles and a year and a half. I'll take it in to the dealer asap, then. I kinda figured it would be but hadn't read the fine print on exceptions.

the only thing i would sweat, if there is something wrong with the cd changer, how is the toyota dealer going to get your cds out of the changer??? the official toyota service manual specifies replacing the entire unit and not to disassemble it!

if u want a better idea of what is wrong, and you are bored, maybe even bored enough to check all the fine posts in the boring thread, and would like some excitement in your life and are nosey--------------------------------------------------------------------

there is my post in the knowledge base here. about lan check codes ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that could possibly be a problem with the CD player/changer is logged by the MFD. you can go into the MFD diagnostic screens, get the list of errors. and that post of mine will tell you exactly what is going on.

the MFD logs everything. the following errors are not the complete list, but just an example:
loader errors, damaged disks, elevator problems, overheating, invalid mp3 files, disks inserted upside down, device not present
    etc etc etc

do not clear any codes until the dealer replaces your cd changer. he will need these codes too

I had the same thing happen with my 2005 Prius. It took several weeks before my dealer receive a new unit along with the CDs which had been loaded in the old unit. The service rep said that the "reason" was that the CDs were not standard size and thickness. They were audio CDs from a book club and they were identical to every CD I own! Go figure.

they replaced my player with a new one. they will ship the old cd to the factory who will fix it and return the cds to the dealer - should take 6-8 weeks, they say. regardless, my cd player is now working.

no charge, under warranty. so at this point, I'm happy.

is this covered under the extended warranty? my changer seems to have crapped out on me this morning and i'm very close to 36k. if it's covered under the extended, i won't need to rush to the dealer.

I don't know the terms of the extended warranty, as I never buy them. You will have to check, but one would certainly expect it to be covered.
