I was wondering what Toyota added to the 05 model to make it 25kg heavier

    2004: 1310kg (2890 lbs)

    2005: 1335kg (2943 lbs)

We know they added two clips to headliner. That's all I know.

I think it's the weight of all the praise that was poured on it since the 2004 model year.

it could be because of the option differences

How about those 2 ugly airbag warning stickers on the visors?

Probably just a correction in the declared weight due to changes from the early 2004 model to what is currently shipping. Car companies do this all the time, especially when they are moving from one production year to another and have actual experience with the production unit.

All the Prii are dividing among them and carrying on their collective shoulders, as it were, the weight of the world's economic/energy woes.

ok im only posting here to see if anyone has the answer.

personally i think its because of the additional tire pressure being used. it wasnt as common a practice as it is now.

OH WAIT!! that is pressure, not mass. well even air weighs something so that would be a part of it.

my other theory was that since the 2005 has the gas tank "fix", something that most 2004's werent delievered with, that the additional weight is from the extra gas that was put in as the complimentary full tank of gas.

This is for the Canadian Prius. Sorry I should've mentioned that. There is a difference (apparently) according to our brochures. This is the base curb weight so I don't think options will affect anything. We do not have any new standard equipment for 2005.

Oh, Canadian!! That's due to the additional weight of the dual language signage!

Yes, French weighs quite a bit more than English (more words per sentence on average).

That, or they gave you a really big EV switch (those knife switchs in the Frankenstein movies). :)

Yes, apparently they must've needed to add an extra person in the nav for the separate voice guidance system. Quite a bargain at 25kg.

Seriously though, I assume it's unexplanable?

actually the weight difference came about when in the conversion process which accounted for the canadian pound being devalued similiar to the devaluation of the canadian dollar.

Seriously, I was thinking about ripping these off the other day -
can it be done without ruining your visors?

OK, seriously -- I know the only addition to the US '05 was the rear windshield wiper.

So my question is: was something more added to the Canadian '05? I haven't tracked what the model difference is.

Also, different standard tires than the '04s?

If it's not that, I assume it's a typo. Unless something about the "daylight headlights" (sorry, forgot the official term) was altered in the '05, that adds a lot of weight -- we don't have that feature here. (Seems very unlikely.)
