    LOS ANGELES (AP) -- General Motors Corp. says it will stop advertising in the Los Angeles Times, at least temporarily, because of dealer concerns over "factual errors and misrepresentations" in the newspaper's articles and editorials.

    [...]

    On Wednesday, the paper published a column by auto critic Dan Neil that called GM, which has struggled recently with sluggish sales, "a morass of a business case" and called for the "impeachment" of two executives. Among other criticisms, Neil said GM "utterly missed the boat on hybrid gas-electric technology" while speeding up production of SUVs.
    [...]

    Gee.. Could the truth hurt that much?

    If you read the article in a quiet room, you can almost hear GM's coporate sniff and "Hmph!" all the way from Michigan.

    Absolutely. If LA Times is smart they'll simply view this as an effort on GM's part to control what they print...you don't F*** with the press's freedom of speach. I would not be at all suprised if the LA Times doesn't just turn around and refuse to ever accept advertising from GM again.

    Once again, an ill considered decision by GM. Instead of facing the facts they deny and blame others for their 'misfortune'.

    Is there no one at GM that has the ear of the CEO and BOD and some common sense?

    You must be extraordinarily difficult to "surprise." Or perhaps you're only given to the occasional overstatement.

    That's right Garbage Motors. Keep your head impaled deep in the nice warm sand. All will be just fine if you keep repeating "it's not our fault we suck" to yourself often enough. You won't notice the bankruptcy, the buyout by Toyota, nor the pink slip that has been slipped into your corporate inbox.

    GM, truth hurts, don't it?

    I do hope the LA times sticks to their guns and doesn't cave to GM's whiney pressure. There are 2 year old more mature than GM. :lol: (Mommy! They're picking on me 'cause I don't wanna do a hybrid! They don't like my SUV's. whaaa!" )

    actually i think it is one of the smartest business moves GM has made in a long time by pulling the ads. after all, why spend money trying to push something that isnt going to sell. roll those ad bucks into some research and get a decent product to sell. or better yet, pay a headhunter a decent fee to get some quality leadership

    A company who knows what Neil has printed to be untrue, unfounded, and imaginary lies would be able to prove him wrong.

    So, GM, go ahead. Prove him wrong.

    I think GM needs a new corporate slogan:

    [align=center:2272d465c4]GM: Whistling Past the Graveyard[/align:2272d465c4]

    Not really. The Los Angeles Times (I call it The Dog Trainer) really takes a dim view towards truth and accuracy. For years, the only thing that kept me from cancelling the subscription is the Friday Fry's Electronics Ad section and the Sports page. This year, my brother is paying for the subsceription.
