Oh, and the Prius wave...seems I get it at random...I'm always on the lookout, but others are not. Maybe they're watchin' the display to get better MPG. The 'older' drivers seem not to wave. But it could be me.

Exactly what I've found. They just don't see me waving and seem "happily ignorant" of their surroundings. I

after all my little ranting i must say that the few prius folks ive met are absolutely amazing folks. they all seem very intelligent and hav very divergent outlooks.most are extremely green which is fine. i think im kind of the exeption im not that green but i love great engineering and i still spend about $12 a week on gas compared to most people with conventional cars paying double or more for their week of commuting or whatever. i really like my prius forums and get an astonishing amount of well thought out wonderful advice and hints. what fun :)

prius wave?.. nah. i get them. What i reall like is pulling into a gas station with another prius. people tend to ask a lot of questions then. i know more than anyone else i meet, so it's really cool to answer questions :)

Otherwise... the wave. I get a wave every once and a while. I see most prius drivers looking forward or at their screens

Classic owners almost always wave unless it's a Corporate car, then most don't care. Gen2 nope, just blank stares or the finger. It's totally mainstream now and most have their head up somewhere and don't care. PC'ers are the total exception. For us it's not a car it's a lifestyle statement, geek or status or techo freak whatever, and were caught in it.

My husband has gotten a few waves from 2Gs while driving our Prius... don't see too many classics around here. I got a reluctant wave from a classic driver last time I saw one on the road.

In almost a month I have gotten about 3 waves. I am so disappointed! I thought all Prius owners would be as excited as me.

My husband works on Prii at the dealer, and most people are happy to share stories once they find out he has one at home too... but I guess on the road people in Durham suck. :(

I had a fun commute home yesterday on lake shore drive. i was in the third lane and an identical salsa red beaut pulled up next to me. both of it's occupants smiled and i smiled back giving them a wave. they waved with a knowing grin.
the prius wave may be losing steam and i may only get 1 in 5 like the original post but that 1 is always fun.
prii seem to be everywhere in chicago now.
I generally wave to all hybrids; i admire insights; try to keep up with accords; and i always make a point to pass ions sometimes giving them a not so nice wave out of eyesight (hate that commercial).

It's not the Ion driver's fault that GM has such poor marketing. It is their fault they chose to purchase an Ion.

I don't think the Prius wave is dead, however the kind of people buying the Prius now aren't here writing, talking and sharing. They are the ones that are purchasing the car only for utilitarian purposes, not for purposes based on greater good, or geekiness. I don't mind not getting waved, but it sure is nice when it does happen.

What I'm having difficulty with is setting up a Prius group in my neck of the woods. I'm not sure if it is because people aren't out on the Internet reading posts or what. I admit that I've relied on posting boards for a lot of my communication, but I don't want to invest in a newspaper add either.

Well, maybe I'll get to wave at somebody when I leave for lunch.

In the last 4 months i've seen maybe 12 prii, mostly overtaken while driving, i alway flash my headlights and wave incase they are looking in their mirror, only 1 response. :( I hope it improved here in MA.

For my part I'm pretty sure I notice every Prius within my line of sight. My head jerks involuntarily toward any Prius in my peripheral vision (I exaggerate only slightly, here). But you might have something there about Prius drivers not paying attention. Could it be that their eyes are glued on the MFD?

:iagree: lol. I do the same thing. Any prius within sight, or even out of sight sometimes, i know is there. I've even spotted a few prius while looking through traffic. The car windows in front of me are tinted and there are many cars, but i see that prius 12 cars up at the front of the line.

I also think it's the MFD. They are glued to it sometimes.

I try to wave to everyone. When i passing people on the highway, i just smile. They don't seem to pay attention all that much on the highway.

Yay! I got my first wave in months! Well, I don't wave to the taxi drivers here since they're probably focussed on getting their passengers to their destination asap; that and I haven't got a wave back so I gave up. This wave was from a Salsa Red Pearl. They look like out-of-towners.

Fred, I don't believe I've seen a black Prius yet (I work in Franklin and am in Nashville all the time) but if I did I'd sure as heck wave!

I am batting 100%. Six weeks since having the car in the Detroit suburbs - I've only seen one other Prius. It was at the Detroit Metro Airport where a couple gave me a toot and a friendly wave.

The other day a guy in an SUV cut me off suddenly and I was close on his tail for awhile - just let off on the gas) He gave me the finger but I just laughed. How can you be unhappy driving in this car?

Today I was out shopping and saw silver Prius coming up behind me and then ended up stopping next to me at the light. I rolled down my window and yelled, "Nice car!"
It was an Asia family who slowly looked my way and then grinned. Don't think that they had even registered the fact before that there was a Salsa Red right next to them. I think they were lost. Anyway, they were totally oblivious to my presence. Scary!

    Hi All,

Well, I still wave and puncuate every conversation I have, whether I have passengers in the car or am on the carphone with the clarion call of "Prius" whenever I spot one.

Here in Claremont, there are a few but it is nothing compared to the Los Angeles/San Fernando Valley areas.

I am sure that some, no strike that, most of the folks that I enthusiastically wave and give the thumbs up to are a bit baffled unless our cars are side by side for any length of time.

I have also noticed, at least out here, that there seems to be a direct correlation to driving a Prius and talking on the cellphone. I have yet to see a Prius in motion where the driver was not plugged into either a headset or holding the phone. So much for the bluetooth thing. I thought if you had that you didn't have to take your phone out to use it. There must be alot of package 1's and 3's out there.

It does make my day whenever I get a wave before I give one. It is rare but does happen.

I think we should all keep waveing, smiling and grinning like fools (as if we could help that driving these wonderful cars) and keep the wave alive and kicking until all the cars on the road are like ours.

Oh, and I do take the opportunity to blow a (discreet but heartfelt) raspberry at every Hummer I see.

Take care all and have a nice remainder of the weekend.

No one waves at me, or even looks -- just too common place I guess ... or maybe our geekish excitement is too uncool for these folks!

My favorite "Prius Wave" happened to come from a non-Prius driver, who was in the lane next to me when I was stopped at a light behind another blue 2004 prius. The non-prius driver beeped her horn, waved, pointed at the two of us, and gave us the thumbs up. I was a very cheerful moment.
