Toyota makes an add in 6 cd in dash changer. i THOUGHT they would just pull the stock radio/casette/cd out and replace it but it looks like I'm wrong. Any idea WHERE the put the add on unit? How does it look?

It goes in right below the stock head unit. You'll lose the storage area but the smoky platic cover stays.

It looks like an add on, especially since you'll have two places to insert CD's but it is covered by the existing plastic cover so, the clean lines of the dash remain.

Thanks Bob! Since I would have been storing CD's in there anyway, its not a problem and there are many other storage areas. Do you know if the add on works with the MFD and steering wheel controls? I called a local Toyota dealer and the parts guy was no help. Guess its not a popular option. :) Thanks again.

    Good question! I don't know...

My only knowledge is from seeing a Prius on a car lot with one in it.

I'll take a guess tho and say 'Yes' based on another guess that the add on CD player plugs into the back of the OEM radio in the same place as the XM radio tuner. Since the steering wheel and MFD controls operate the XM radio, I'd suspect that they'll also control the ad-on CD changer.

I guess (again!) that this means that if you bought the changer, you wouldn't be able to add on XM radio...

Hopefully someone else who actually has one of these can solidify my conjecturing...

Really dont have an interest in XM so no problem there. :) Was the one you saw used? I surprised a dealer woukd have added it to a new one. Since Toyota offers the addon, I figured it shoukd work as well as OEM but we know how THAT works sometimes. ;-)

I have heard from some other Prius owners and, unfortunately, it seems that hte CD changer does NOT work with the MFD. That is the main reason I have not had one installed.

Thanks VERY much for the reply. Guess Ill have to go with the AI package if I want the changer and control from the MFD. Im actually having a problem getting sales people to return calls on the car. Guess THEY have the upper hand on this one.
