2010 Prius Models and Option Packages

(New Member) Cheers. Have begun shopping for replacement for 1986 NissanMaxima S.W (fine ride, but getting old).

Wife & I rented -09 Hertz Prius (stock Model) for week in Yosimite & Nevada to see how compatible this car was w/our needs. A great ride, lots of room, and plenty of power over the 9,000 pass to Nevada.......Very impressed!

Two minor kinks: Shift layout was "counter-intuitive" (will probably change in -10 version); and the seat was not fully supportive (I have long legs, and she does not).

Question: Will the 2010 model offer a fully adjustable seat? (Preferably with a memory for when we switch drivers). We will probably get the top-of-the-line model, as we plan to do a lot of traveling in next few years. Thanks All

 

I'm calling tomorrow to put down my deposit for the 2010 Prius and now after reading about these packages, I am very confused and disappointed. I wanted the Moon Roof/Solar Panel very badly but I don't wanna sacrifice the LED lamps. Why on earth would u not be able to have both? Halogen headlamps are the yellow lights right? Yuck. I have Xenon headlamps on my Prius and I could NEVER go back. So that right there is a problem. Then if I want LED lights I have to get 17 inch wheels?? I don't want 17 inch wheels. The whole idea of the Prius is to have small wheels for better MPG. This really sucks.

I wonder if I got the solar moonroof package, if LED/Xenon lights could be put in after market???

 

Don't know about practical, aftermarket LED/Xenon lights, but there are aftermarket halogen bulbs that are very white and bright. My guess is that my Philips X-treme Power halogen bulbs illuminate the road as well as and probably better than your Xenon HIDs. But the downside is that they don't last long.

 

Looks like those fog light spots would be the perfect place and physical size for an LED lens setup...
of course, then we would have the issue of proper aiming.

 

When is pricing going to be announced?

 

Darnet... I was only going to go with a Prius III with the Advanced Technology Package. Why is it that you can 't get what you would actually USE without all the extra Leather this-n-that...

Also, Looks like it'll be a $35,000 price for me ... Just a guess...!

Supplementing what Tideland said about the 2010 having seat height adjustment and optional lumbar adjustment, the 2010's seats are much more supportive and comfortable all around including the lumbar area (even in the standard seat without the optional lumbar adjustment), they seem to be able to go back an additional 2 to 4 inches, plus the steering wheel is telescopic. So all in all, I think it's a HUGE improvement in seating comfort and driving position.

Also, the joystick gear shifter is now located on the center console. (But I don't know if that was your question.)

$35k for what?

The 2009 Camry Hybrid, fully loaded with Moonroof and Nav, MSRPs at just under $32k.

I don't care what kind of fuel economy the Gen3 Prius has - there's no way it can outprice the Camry Hybrid.

If a Gen3 Model V exceeds $28k before adding the option packages, I'm gonna be really disappointed. And Toyota's going to be disappointed if it expects to sell a $28k-$35k midsize car, depending on model/options, to anyone but the most devoted prius fans.

 

Base price $24000. Loaded$34000. That's my guess!

 

I'm going with the earlier "leak" of a $23,500 base (Model II). The fully loaded (Model V with Advanced Tech) is going to be a LOT more. My first guess was $36,000. Being more hopeful than anything else, I'm willing to draw that back to $34,890. Still is a whole lot to pay for a pretty small car (love it as I do, though).

They say painting a fly on the back of the toilet bowl helps.. but I don't have one in mine.

 

And my $28k figure referred to a Model V without any option packages (Nav, Solar/Moonroof, or AT).

In addition, keep in mind that technology advances. If we upped the price every time it did so, very few could afford to own a car today.

The simple truth is Toyota has to work within certain price constraints. Cool as it is, the Prius is still a mid-size car.

 

I guess it means you get less paint on the floor but painting a fly in the toilet bowl would be tricky, especially if it is flying around the bowl.
I'd use spray paint for that job.

 

Seems I remember a question about if the price would be cheaper now that the cost of batteries and the technology in general was cheaper.

The reply from Toyota was that although thats true, the technology is "better" in the 2010 with extras added that will offset any savings from lower technology costs.

I think the general impression was that the price would not be cheaper.. but most likely more.

The good thing is that it should hopefully be modest allowing the lower technology cost to buffer undue price hikes from the extras.

Plus, as discussed.. there are only so many goodies one can add to a car before they make it unmarketable for the general public.
Most people just want good transportation thats comfortable and has good gas mileage.... .. beyond that.. even being "eco friendly" actually can cost gas mileage.... as soon as they put smog protection on our cars, the horsepower dropped... forcing it to stay up to temp also causes a drop in mpg.

Only a few of us appreciate driving a space shuttle with all the cool monitoring devices on the ground!

Although I love gadgets and monitoring tools and toys, many lay persons are confused and intimidated by too much.
As the public warms up to the new technology, it will be easier to make feedback systems more complicated without scaring people off.

I still feel like we have some major brakes on the technology here.
Technology seems to be moving much faster than what we are producing.
