    Hi Everyone,

One of the reasons I bought a Prius, is because last year when I was visiting Europe, I hired one in the South of France for a week - and liked it.

Most of the car was the same - obviously different side for driving (Aussies drive on the left and are Right Hand drive).

One thing I was sorely dissapointed about was that the French one had a great feature when reversing that mine does not seem to have. The reverse camera display had 'guidlines' displayed on screen that would adjust depending on the steering wheel placement. These were yellow (safe) and red (warning) guidlines to show you the expected location of the vehicle based on steering wheel turn degree.

Now, I can manage quite well without them, and can manage well without the reversing camera at all really, but it was such a nice touch!

Does anyone know if this is something that can be enabled?

Looking forward to seeing what this one stirs up lol!

Have you asked the service writer at the local Toyota dealership if this is one of the 'features' that can be enabled? There are some obscure technical features such as backup-beep and foot vent operation that can be turned on or off at the dealership. This might be one.

Some of the others who regularly visit the Toyota Technical site may have more insights. You might consider 'buying' a limited subscription to look.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with iTech features and operation. Is there anything in the hand book?

Now that is a good idea. I was thinking of fitting a tranparent sheet to the display and drawing my own lines. Of course they would only be for a straigh back parking.

Well, in EU, top versions of Prius have IPA system - Intelligent Park Assist. That was what you were seeing on your french Prius.

    I agree with Ogo.

It is the IPA function. I actually have the French spec of the car so know what your on about. It is rather useful isn't it.

I suppose the easiest check would be to look at the buttons to the side of the headlight angle switch ( i suppose on the RHD version they would be to the left of the switch) and see if you have the IPA button.

It's the little car button with the green indicator that shows if it's active (hope you understand this). If it's there then just keep the button engaged (switch it on and leave it on) and Voila there you have it.

Don't know what the spec differences are on the Oz version of the Prius - think that you need the i-tech specs.

Unfortunately the Oz Prius, not even the I-Tech, doesn't have auto parking. From what I know of the reverse parking feature that would be the lines first mentioned in this thread but I read it as something else.
    Thanks for the info.

The IPA is a standard feature of Prii made for Japan. My colleagues are working on implanting this system (which can be bought on Japanese auctions pretty cheap) to EU/US market models, but it's quite not easy because Japan is left-sided country and they must "mirror" the algorithm in some way.

It's due in July this year. I might be getting it at December or January.

Thanks for the replies. Bring on the new model, I want the IPA!

And, no, the Toyota Service Centre were no help. They had no idea what I was talking about. They also got annoyed when I *pleaded* with them to turn off the reversing beep. But that's another story...
