Has anyone had/know of problems with the Goodyear Integrity tires. My wife had one on the right rear fail at under 4,000 miles for no apparent reason. Complete blow-out at 60 MPH with 39 psi. The tire shop seemed a little evasive when I suggested that there might be problems with the integrity of the Integrity. Thoughts?

I haven't seen posts regarding outright failure & blowouts. There's plenty of discussion about lack of traction, rapid treadwear, etc.

Did your wife have any problem stopping the car safely? My wife had a RF tire blow out at freeway speeds last summer because she hit road debris. No problem, the car was easily controllable and she drove over to the shoulder so that I could install the donut spare.

No problems in 34000+ miles on the Integrities. I blew the right rear tire on my Intrigue and just felt the normal drag & rough ride. No control problems.

From my days in the tire business many years ago, I can say that blowouts are almost always due to road hazards. More often than not it would be something like a nail that causes a progressive air leak and substantial underinflation, which at highway speeds then heats the sidewall to the point of failure. Less often would be a larger object that causes an immediate catastrophic failure.

Tire pressure checked twice weekly. Was not in the sidewall. May have been road debris but, the way it happened was strange. I was wondering if there was a problem with the tires that Goodyear/Toyota weren't talking about (not that anyone ever witholds that type of info)

Even with paying careful attention to pressure, it still can happen. A nail picked up between pressure checks can do it. The "progressive" air leak I mention could occur over several days or several minutes.

Just curious: What did the tire store tell you the cause was? If they run a reputable shop, they should offer at least a tentative explanation and then, if needed, get a factory rep to inspect it. That's the process that was used when I was in the business, anyway. Admittedly, things could have changed.

As others have suggested, there is no known issue with Integritys that predispose them to blowout failures. As large as this forum is, folks here almost certainly would have heard about it.

Tire store wasn't willing to offer an opinion about it at all but I was out of town and they aren't my regular tire shop.
The important thing to me is that there doesn't seem to be anyone aware of an underlying problem with these tires.
