thanks to prius chat

    Day before yesterday i checked the tire preasure and made sure i had 35 in the front and 33 in the rear
    today i went to my dealer for my first oil change and thanks to the posts on prius chat i told them to make sure they put no more than 3.9 quarts of oil in the car.He wrote 3.9 quarts in bold letters in three places on the service order.when it was ready i checked the oil and sure enought it registered a little below the full mark.
    before i left the lot i checked the tire preasure and they had put 26 lbs in every tire.they corrected the problem right away.
    had i not found prius chat and you good folks that give us advice i dont think i would have checked the tires.
    cant realy blame it on the dealership.how many times did you get the food you ordered from a fast food chain.check the bag................

    Glad you got some good advice here. I know I sure have.

    I think you should blame the dealer for the low air pressure. The dealer should know what the pressure should be and they should check your tires and fluid levels when you bring it in for an oil change. I know they have got the pressure wrong on me (had 33 in front and 35 in back) and I wasn't too pleased about it. Will be doing most of the maintainance myself.

    Please correct me if I am wrong but I was under the impression most people were running with 42 F and 40 R?

    I run at 40/38. All depends on your prefrence. Tradeoffs: Higher mileage, rougher ride or smoother ride and lower mileage. Some use Toyota's numbers others run as high as 44psi. It's up to you.

    Im just an old fart and like the softer ride.My wife is much younger and I keep her because she works in quality control at the georgetown ky toyota plant.Her job is to check the cars on the roll drum among other things .the last stop before shipping.dont listen to her ofter but she said if they wanted higher preasure in the tires they wouldnt have put 35/33 on the door.I have to listen to her once in awhile or she will make me go out of retirement and go back to work. hehe
    I drive her avalon once a week to gas it up for her and find i feather the darn thing and dirve it like my prius.If she had a prius she would get about 33 mph as she gives it hell when she starts from being stopped and waits till she is at the stop light before touching the brake.I gave up telling her how to drive it.

    I run 42-40 in my Classic and 40-38 in the wifes 2k4. To each his own, this topic has been beaten to death on PC and Yahoo. I'm more concerend with the tire wear pattern than mileage or ride quality. These give me the best wear pattern sofar. Dunlop SP10's on the Classic are LRR's and pressure is very critical to longevity.

    well duanerw... your wife drives exactly like every SUV owner in Olympia. yesterday i came off the freeway on the way home and came rolling up to a stop light about 3 blocks ahead and this yayhoo comes off right behind me and gasses his big 4X4 around me to jump in line ahead of me at the light. since his exhaust needed work, i heard him punch over the stereo i had on.

    besides his enormous gas bill, i be willing to bet he needs a brake job every 18months too.
