Ok, hopefully Danny can get to it later this week. Someone bump this thread on Thursday if the problem persists.

Or perhaps an automated browser update. Those happen all of the time. This issue is restricted to chrome and safari.

Again, this seems to be site specific. I suppose I should try visiting some other chat site. For added info, I just visited the site using Opera, and had no pop-up problems. It did have the same updating problem as Firefox though.

Re: Get Rid of that Pop-up!!!

    FIX FOR SAFARI USERS:

I just experimented with Windows version of Safari 4 beta at work and found the following fix:

    1. Go to Preferences.
    2. Click on Security Tab.
    3. At the bottom of the Dialogue, uncheck "Ask before sending a non-secure form to a secure website"

The annoying pop-ups will go away. However, it will no longer de-bold a viewed thread when backing up to the View New Threads screen.

The Apple Help for this setting says the following:

"Sometimes an otherwise secure website may fail to provide a secure way to submit a form, such as one containing your password or credit card number. Safari displays a message when this is about to happen, so you can cancel. If you don't want to see this message, you can turn it off."

Someone will need to confirm this also works on the Mac version, though I'd be surprised if it didn't.

Someone smarter than me can comment on whether they think unchecking the box is dangerous from a general security standpoint (when visiting other sites).

Sounds like something should still be done on the server side to fix this problem; but I don't pretend to be an expert on such matters.

For the record, I have tested Safari, Opera, Firefox and Internet Explorer 7. Only Safari had the pop-up problem. All of them had the failure to de-bold problem.

Re: Get Rid of that Pop-up!!!

I finally gave in and upgraded to Explorer 7, after repeated urgings from Msoft. Big mistake. The popups are worse than Explorer 6. Maybe that's why they want you to upgrade. Msoft has become very commercial. Their home page, msn.com, is a tabloid mess. Prefer Yahoo.

    I posted a fix for Safari users above. {link not needed since threads merged}

On an unrelated note, I had to switch from Safari 4 to Firefox in order to do a hyperlink or any formatting in this message.

Explorer worked fine for me at work today, and Safari's working well at home. What is it that's affecting some users but not others?

As of ~8 PM, I'm back to normal too -- using Safari -- and I didn't even
    try ggood's fix. :noidea:

Many thanks to whomever, whatever has worked this magic. :cheer2:

Safari 4 on a Mac is now working for me at home, without having to uncheck the security setting I described above. Thanks to whatever little internet elf worked the magic.

As a former programmer, I'm a little worried about things that seem to "fix themselves" - but I'm happy to say that all is now well without any changes made by me (to Safari on my iMac). So Thanks to the programming elf and I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks to whoever made the change that eliminates this annoyance. As of this morning, the forum once again works as it did before the recent spate of pup-ups. (Using Safari 4 on a Mac)

Unless Danny snuck in while on vacation and did something nobody made any changes to Priuschat.

I have the same setup on my iMac, and checking the"Block pop-up Windows" line item under "Safari" fixed it for me!

As long as this thread is being a poll on web browsers, Firefox 3 on the iMac and Firefox 2 on the new Linux netbook here, and I've never had any of the above issues.

Firefox 3 with NoScript and AdBlock Plus addons, Google Chrome.
Chrome gave me problems so I uninstalled thinking it was corrupted when this problem started.

Whatever this intermittent problem is, it seems to be on again, at least for me. Since Saturday, I've been getting frequent stalls and lockups. I installed Safari 4 (Safouri? :)) this morning, and tried from an IE machine this afternoon - same problem. Strangely, when I manage to sign in, the problem seems to go away.
