For what its worth, I would have picked the hi tech package Australia offers too.
I want as many goodies and I can get "without" taking a 3mpg ding on the gas mileage from 17" wheels... otherwise, I would go for that too.

As far as the LED's.. I just haven't seen any on the road that blow me away.
Although they look elegant and sophisticated, they don't have the " umph" the other lights on the road do.

I can only be presumptuous to assume Toyota feels the same way by their silence of providing feedback concerning the LED's from staff that presently have the access to compare "LED vs. Halogen" on the spot.

Not trying to be rude, I just realize business is business and they don't want to express a negative image of a new product as it tends to taint the rest of the new product also.

Of course, I could be wrong, but the silence is grown quite still its been so long now.

    windstrings,

Don't worry, we're still here, we're just a bit behind on PC these days with lots of preparation for the launch going on right now. We don't mean to be ignoring the discussion and we promise to catch up properly tomorrow-next week.

In the meantime, please don't take our silence as meaning anything negative. Honestly, we're walking a fine line with comparing things like headlights since a true comparison should take place on the streets, not in a static position, and I want to be very careful not to tell you something that might be considered a driving impression before the embargo ends March 25th. So, my advice is stay tuned, next Wednesday should be a fun day for learning a whole lot more on Prius, reactions from the press, those that drove in LA and SF for Prius Connection test drives (day time sorry no headlamp observations likely coming from that) and more.

As soon as we can share more, we will.

    Erica

Thanks for the reply Erica, only problem is if the reply is not timely, how can we use it to adjust our order?

Isn't the window for adjusting orders far past now for this special invitation?

I guess its this way these things go with new technology, but many of use have chosen packages based on hunches and speculation.... not a problem if the order can be altered, but It sounds like thats not an option since there is such a lag time between the ordering and producing the product.

I think I'll be happy with my choice, but it would be nice if we didn't have buyer remorse and wished we would have picked another package once we get more info.

I understand you guys are juggling lots of balls..... sorry for the impatience and we appreciate the communication you do have with us.

I am sure that all of this waiting for (driving experience, prices etc) is normal but why does it seem to be so drawn out? Is it me? :(

I've had the same car for 12 years and on March 9th, I was hit from behind and the car was totaled. I had planned to go Prius shopping when the 2010s came out, but I wasn't in any hurry. Now, I'm in a hurry. I want a 2010 and I really would like to know when they might be available in Central Florida. I don't see any point in getting a 2009 when we are so close to the 2010. Does anyone know? Thanks. (I just joined this chat today)

    Welcome mcamp52!
Quite a few changes to the 2010 for the good!

You can play it both ways... once they are released, I would expect the 2009's and less to drop in price due to the new upgrades of the 2010.

don't know what the eta is for Florida... I can only guess.... 3 + months at least.
Its worth the wait if you can afford to.

Bike or ride a bus for a few months if you can. If not possible due to your circumstances, then why don't you buy a cheap used car and drive it until a 2010 Prius is in your hands, then re-sell the used car?

How do I get to qualify as a "PRIUS PRIORITY PARTICIPANT"?

I bought the 1st Generation Prius, then I bought two 2nd Generation Prius(s) and now I'm in the market for a 3rd Generation Prius.....any chance Toyota will offer those of us Prius owners that supported them in the beginning and help spread the word??

    (3) ...
    (4) Wait for a personalized email invitation from Toyota.

I don't have the necessary Time Machine either, and also missed out, as did hundreds of others.

Now that Toyota has started doing this, I expect it could possibly be a thing of the future too.
Toyota doesn't pick the brightest and the smartest alone, but they appear to be impelled by those who have a passion for the car and don't mind saying so.

Any good salesman has to be very vocal and have passion in order to sell anything to anybody else.

I've always been a terrible salesman concerning something I don't believe in, but quite the opposite concerning something I do.

I'm also guessing that number of posts have a factor in that. I think everyone that was picked was totally caught off guard and blown away.

Its pretty cool that Toyota stoops down to the common man "who really drives the car in everyday life" to pick people.....
I guess I always assumed those roles were always reserved for management and muckity muks.

Just another strike in Favor of Toyotas "common sense honest marketing Strategy" thinking rather than corruption and Good ole boy politics that so many of the American businesses use as their driving force.

Interesting article on cleanMPG site on base Prius(new Gen) pricing of $21,387 or $2,921 less than current Prius.

Here is a link to the article.

I don't know that the "base model" described in that piece would resemble the U.S. "base model" for the 3rd Gen Prius. Perhaps it does, but I think the article may be describing a Japan-only version of the new Prius.

It also could reflect the starting point on the unlisted and non-described Model I on the U.S. sheet. Remember that the U.S. "base model" for retail markets is likely the Model II.

As a side note, this is the 2nd article I've seen today that mentions a Honda hybrid sport utility coming in 2010. Here's hoping it gets MPGs in at least the mid 30s.

Actually, several of us got invited to a private event that was separate from the Detroit Auto Show. That's what Dave's referring to.

The article is definitely about JDM (Japanese Domestic Market), where the new Insight has been on sale since early February. Pricing and equipment will be different here, regardless of whether your "here" is US, Canada, Oz, or Euro.

Misty Grey. It's a light grey (almost white) interior with contrasting dark purple/dark grey inserts on the door panels and centre console lid. Quite a nice design imo.
