Steering sensitivity

    We are still getting used to our new Prius and how it handles. Today, it was very windy and could not keep the car going straight. When there is no wind, the steering is so tight that the slightest movement of the wheel causes the car to respond. It's almost like the car over reacts to our input. Then add wind to the equation, and it takes all my attention just to stay in my lane. Has anyone else found this to be a problem? It takes the fun out of driving it when we have to be so slight with our inputs to the steering to keep from overcorrecting.

    I think you will get used to the steering pretty quickly. It is sensitive but starts to feel very natural after a few days.
    On the open road I drive with my elbows on the arm rests and my hands at the bottom of the steering wheel and from there I can make tiny adjustments as required. Pure pleasure!

    You didn't give your speed but I would slow down if the wind starts to buffet any car

    There have been a lot of comments on this forum about how the Prius handles at Interstate speeds. Some claim it's great, some claim it's uncontrollable.

    I would have to rank my Prius about 2/3 down the list. It's not uncontrollable, but it does require all your concentration. If I contrast it to my parents 2003 Buick LeSabre, the Buick doesn't seem too bothered by crosswinds at highway speeds.

    Yes, I've had the alignment checked, even put on different tires. The alignment helped a bit, but it's still too twitchy.

    I think the electric-assist power steering, tall narrow profile, and low Cd all conspire against you.
