I have a 2005 Prius Package 9 and love the hands-free BT. However, at highway speeds, I have a hard time holding conversations due to road noise. The maximum volume of the BT system seems just a little too quiet. Is there anyway to convince the Prius to exceed the maximum "5 bars" of volume for the BT phone?

I think your main issue is that the sound is coming solely from the driver lower speaker. It would have been better if Toyota had used the center speaker, but that might have caused problems for feedback, since the mics are right above it in the overhead console.

I haven't looked, but I don't think there is a way to change the BT volume. It isn't even going through the sound system other than the speaker.

Get into diagnostics mode (hold info button, turn on/off parking lights 3-5 times). As described here

Go to BT menu and adjust the volumes.

I have send volume at 0, receive volume at -4. With my Sony-Ericsson 637, the incoming audio is really really distorted unless I get it down like -4 to -5.

Was going to suggest the same. I have a Nokia 6600, and the received sound was always a bit hard to hear. After playing with those settings I now have almost perfect sound.

Guess I'll be trying that in a few minutes. Saw something about a bluetooth configuration screen on here but couldn't find it for the life of me. I had a feeling that there was some sort of diagnostic system hidden in the MFD. Looking forward to tinkering with it. Thanks, fellas!

Sure enough, diagnostic mode let me bump up the BT volume. I was able to have a conversation using BT at highway speeds yesterday. Thanks for the help, all.

What settings did you decide on?
