The Ford people at the Los Angeles Auto Show late last year unabashedly began lobbing bombs at Toyota – bombs in the form of T-shirts.

Ford had stacks and stacks of Ts emblazoned with these words: “Why waste your money on Camry or Accord? Ford Fusion gets more miles per gallon.â€

And Ford has the numbers to prove it. The 2010 Fusion Hybrid does get substantially better fuel economy than the Camry Hybrid.

The Ford hybrid sedan ($31,999) goes on sale in a few weeks, about the time Honda launches its Insight hybrid, a five-door hatchback.

I genuinely hope this is a game changer for Ford. I think they are small enough to react reasonably quickly to market pressures, and I am hopeful the Fusion hybrid is as great a car as it is purported to be. It's probably too late for GM, and Chrysler has been dead for years, but I am hopeful that Ford can turn it around. I look forward to test driving the Fusion hybrid when I get the chance. The times they are a-changin', and it seems for the better in the automotive world. I am excited that there are so many new and revamped hybrids and small, fuel efficient cars coming to market as of late.

Easy to hit back at this one.
    "Because it's a Toyota not a Ford!"

Victims of their our success is what we've been waiting ages for.

Their production intent is small, for the year just 25,000. All the attention will hopefully push them to commit to more. Everyone wins then.
